street life

Street life

clocking on in time

the sun nudges neatly

stage right to a silent applause

until it falls below the curve

nearby street-worker

bent forward at forty-five degrees

negotiating through a car window

is punched square in the face

he pulls away

all bling and glitter

leaving behind a comet's trail

of cocaine particulates

blue flashing lights

scan the far away scully streets

but not in this district

they are handed back the sun

the working girls fade

silently into the backdrop

in the shop

she waits patiently in the queue

cashier number six please
