Sky

The Dordogne Sky

The Sky

The white clouds are held fast
by invisible threads
for they are cold and lonely
they rarely talk amongst themselves

they juggle for position
yet they seldom touch

“what of that”

there's not a cloud in the sky
that looks out of place

I watch as their cauliflower heads burst
into a time lapse slow motion
yet the invisible thermal plumes
hold their bases quite flat

never did I see such a sight so pure
I scrutinise the sky
for the smallest imperfections
but there are none

I pull away in first
leaving behind
a trail of carbon

a comet's tail of
black particulates
and nitrogen oxides

I swerve and give the lorry driver
coming the other way “the finger”
