Epitaph

Epitaph

Here lies a love that never was,
Tis one will never be
At the start she had my heart
The wretched artery

I pledged undying union
With ceaseless trust I gave
All that I lost was shed and tossed
Into this cursed grave

I yearned not for her silken kiss
Nor angelic touch
Her love was pure, I felt secure
And love went on as such

I happed’ upon my darling girl
Swollen love within my breast
But alas, it came to pass
Another warmed my nest

I fell into a blinding rant
And hurled myself between
The evil crone and love, mine own,
My rage the deepest green.

The sassy tart, she claimed surprise
As I declared her crime.
But , guess my pet, that I would get
Revenge, the most sublime

I knew I needed something ill
To reconcile my pain
Denied my lust, I stewed and fussed
But not, my friend, in vain

I found a dagger in a drawer
Adorned with faithful rust
I scorned and schemed as yet I dreamed
Her bodice scarlet crust

I found her in the garden
Befriended by her guilt
A single shiver, as fate delivered
Her penance to the hilt

I saw her eyes lose luster
Her pretty smile to fade
And there indeed I watched her bleed
And left my love, betrayed.

Here I find my sorrowed soul
Withering near, above
Twas passion mine, a poisoned wine
Goodnight my tortured love.
