When Should I Smile?

When Should I Smile? Smile, they say. It will help break the ice. Smile, they say. It does not cost anything. Smile, they say, it will help fix everything. So, why should I smile? To show that I am not sad? To make you feel less bad? To forget my anger? I don't think so. I will smile when I want to. I will smile when I need to. I will smile when I feel like. I will smile....for me!

Thanks for sharing this... exposing your thoughts through your unique poetic style. Welcome to Poetry Soup. I welcome you with the love of the Lord, expressed by John 3:16 of the Bible, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Be blessed.

A smile should represent your feelings and emotions. Posing one only gives a false sense of what the person is feeling. Be true to your emotions.

A clear, empowering affirmation of emotional autonomy. The repeated imperative of “Smile, they say” effectively contrasts social expectation with the speaker’s final, hard-won decision to smile only on her own terms.❤️😃
