Gum leaf falls

A gum leaf lets go—

            not falling,
                      exactly,

       but trying each wind
               for its name,

                    turning
          green-side,
                         grey-side,

               turning—

                         turning—

                   until the earth
                          lifts
                            to meet it.

Dear Alison, I enjoyed that in just forty-three words, spatially scattered like a drifting leaf across the page, you transform a simple, ubiquitous moment in nature into a deeply moving meditation on agency, transition, and relational gravity. Deeply consoling, understated work, Alison. Blessings, Daniel
