Enchantress by Konstantin Somov

I contort
      to place
  my fingers
       on your frame
   hoping I'll be mirrored there
            creep around myself
    whispering in my ear
 of my own existence
        mistaking subdued lighting
     for gathering darkness
a flash of light for salvation
there is an avenue of trees
lined with stepping stones of shadow
      I don't see it
I enchant myself
          knowing the spell wears off
     it's a powerful skill
but it doesn't make me feel better

Whoa oh and yes, a written success that is unique and loudly whispers all it speaks. Each time I read it, different depths of hues came thru. Truly enjoyed CayCay

LG, I read your interpretation of The Enchantress, transfixed on what you beheld. Then, I dwelled a while reading Ink's take on the scene so bold colors. She invited me on the train to have my say of what I see in Somov's canvas, but only after sipping Hibiscus tea, did I dare delve into what I see in the painting.

Dear Laurentine, what an extraordinary companion piece to your earlier work, and what a fascinating, introspective contrast to Ink Empress’s poem on the exact same painting! Where Ink Empress looked outward to dismantle the external viewer's gaze, you turn the lens inward, exploring the haunting psychology of self-enchantment and the psychological illusions we weave around our own identity. Laurentine, how raw, modern, structurally daring, and deeply thought-provoking. Blessings Daniel

"Enchantress" (also known by its original Russian title Волшебница or Sorceress) is a 1915 symbolic painting by the Russian artist and Mir iskusstva movement member Konstantin Somov A haunting, finely fragmented ekphrasis: the drifting indentation makes the speaker seem to circle, bend, and dissolve within the painting’s uncertain light. The enchantress seems lost in her own spells. The complexity of the mirror is mind bending.

Gosh I literally did contort as I read the opening 🥹 “ mistaking subdued lighting for gathering darkness” why do I always face this? I long to phase that! Hahah that just resonates deep and should be printed 😭” knowing the spell wears off it's a powerful skill but it doesn't make me feel better” omg! What even! I know what would make us feel better! Hibiscus!!! Yess!! This is a fave! Its so catchy! I need you to voice this immediately! What did you even say! Crayons? This is Gouache ineffable!
