lacuna
floorboards creaking as i stepped through the halls,
i wished not to wake the stars at all
the nightfall kept lurking underneath,
the dripping wet furniture surrendered to the leaks
i crept to my room and opened the window
it was pouring outside, the clouds weeping with sorrow
i always try to talk to the sky and tell him a few stories
the tears might cease into silence, and wash away his worries
the sky is the child in me
i try to comfort him, to give us both what we need,
yet he burst into a state of rage
the house trembled, then whined
thunder and lightning quickly captured the night
the flood forced its way forward and swept me away with the storm,
i couldn’t breathe as he pushed me out the door
he carried me through the streets till i was met with the cold, sandy beach
i turned and watched as the place i called home slipped out of reach
suddenly i was engulfed by darkness, stifled with seaweed
i felt the waves strike but miss just above me,
my eyes strained and my heart skipped a beat,
the child i kept safe was nowhere to be found,
my sky, left me at the bottom of the ocean to drown
my smothered body rippled the water’s surface,
the sky calmed itself to mimic my emotions,
tending to my needs and comforting me in our ocean,
where at last, i rest peacefully
