The Onlooker

She watches the world go by.

Like Mama's soothing lullaby.

When lullaby delivers its goods; Mama's baby smiles.

Baby draws teddy closer; teddy dissolves into a smile.

Mama looks at her sleeping child; Mama dissolves into a smile.

The whole family is all smiles; time continues to go by.

But this is not the case for the pretty onlooker.

Her lamp is flickering; her fire is going out.

Still, she continues to watch as the world goes by.

The world is not mean. But the world is not so kind.

The world fails to see the reality beyond its round nose.

It fails to see a feisty soul losing her grip on life.

The world goes blind; oh, the spotlight is too bright.

No wonder it fails to see a woman fighting not to cry.

Eyes fill with tears; bile rises from deep inside.

Tears move down her cheeks, leaving their footprints behind.

If only someone could take her hand, and tell her it's gonna be fine.

If only a handsome stranger could say to her, "Never have I seen a sad face so fine.'

Then she would know her odds are good no matter the roll of the dice.

Then the world going by would no longer seem so bad...

Thanks for sharing this... exposing your thoughts through your unique poetic style. Meanwhile, I greet you with the love of the Lord, expressed by John 3:16 of the Bible, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Be blessed.
