A Marriage Of One
He said "sorry"
again.
But sorry without change
is just a breath
before the next cut.
He chose their side
even when he knew
they were wrong.
"Adjust," he said.
"Compromise."
"Plz... last time."
He promised,
"I'll take a stand for you."
But when the moment came,
it was,
"Try to understand.
I can't ask them
to mend their ways."
"She's a guest,"
"She's precious,"
"Bear with me.
She'll leave
and then we'll have peace."
But peace never came.
Only marks on my soul,
a scared smile,
dull eyes that used to shine.
I am dragging this love alone
while he stands still,
a coward in the quiet.
And I wonder
when do I get to stop begging
for the bare minimum?
When do I get my peace?
