New Chapter, Same Bright Flame
New Chapter, Same Bright Flame
by Otieno Elvis Gikoi
Morning light falls on a proud land.
Katiba Day wakes with songs of hope.
My birthday blooms in the same sun.
Both days speak of fresh beginnings.
The Constitution smiles in steady strength.
I walk forward with open hands.
Every law is a seed of peace.
Every right is a gift we guard.
My existence expands along with this nation's.
We grow by learning from yesterday and today.
The voice of liberty is gentle yet powerful.
It calls me to live for a cause.
Katiba Day is the promise of the people.
My birthday is my personal promise.
Both are chapters of one epic tale.
Justice and joy share the same page.
I honor the ink that sustains everything.
I pay respects to the breath that sustains me.
Candles flame for liberty and life.
Flames ascend for fairness and truth.
This day is history and heart as one.
I write my dreams alongside the law.
I am dreamer, poet, and witness.
My words stroll towards a better tomorrow.
The Constitution leads me on with caution.
Birthdays remind me to continue constructing.
Laws live when we live their meaning.
My promise is to guard this light.
Today is ours mine and Kenya’s.
We both march forward into the future.
