What If I Took Off My Mask

What if I took off my mask
would you love it still
to you see the face that hides
behind it

what if I showed you the real me
would you stand to comfort me
or would you just stand there
and only stare

what if I gave u my emotions
to feel how I feel,
would you stretch out your hand
and help me heal?

what if I gave you an opportunity
to see through my eyes
to visualize what I see
and your ears to hear what I hear
tell me would you still be here?

I bet you wouldn't
because behind this smiling mask
is a sad face
and swollen eyes
flooded with tears

behind this mask
is a face nobody wishes to see
a person nobody wishes to be
and the cries nobody wishes to hear
tell me, if I showed you the real me
would you still be here?

Well said and so apt for these days. We all must ask the question, are we willing to step out, reach out to our fellow man. And we must also be willing to be vulnerable at times, to ask for help. God bless!
