Love Undesired

Once I gave my heart to a careless love,
I never stopped to think of the debt I'd owe,
The thrill outweighed the fear of the breaking hearts
of the ones waiting back at home that loved me so.
I always thought the next time was the end,
Just one more chance and then I'd break this spell,
But the downhill slope gets steeper as you slide,
It's hard to climb the walls of a slippery well,
The guilt became such a heavy cloak to wear,
I hated so the broken road of choice,
Afraid to face the very face of God,
I was drowning and I could not find my voice.
Then one night as I tossed there in my bed,
A prayer began to utter from my soul,
I fell there on my knees and fell apart,
No going back, I had surely lost control.
I confessed my darkness to my loved ones there,
They knelt with me and held me as I wept,
The path to healing was so long and hard,
I changed my mind and the company I had kept.
Today I'm free of the chains that held me down,
Today I walk like a true child of the King,
No looking back not even with a glance,
To win this walk I would give up anything,
Addiction has a way of taking hold,
It will steal your mind and destroy your very soul,
You no longer know the person you once were,
You are there but you're no longer in control
Once I gave my heart to a careless love,
And I suffered as did the ones who loved me so,
Sweet Jesus touched my life and set me free,
Now I walk with him and get stronger as I go.
