The alcoholic

The alcoholic

Wake up in the morning have a drink or two
You know how it is? just to get me through.

Go into work for my daily toil
Good old Dave the life and soul.
First in the queue to take the money to the bank
Call in the pub, another couple sank.

Eyes on the clock, lunch at one
Two large ones later, shakes have gone

Stay on my own the rest of the day
Chewing on mints,it’s better that way.

There’s another five pints before I get in,
Straight up to bed or open the gin?
Wake up at eleven in a pool of sick
My names Dave and I’m an alcoholic

Powerfully penned poem on a sad situation - admitting to an addiction is going a long way towards getting help and getting sober. Reminds me of a lad I worked with he used to shake if he didn't get his usual lunch time 'slot' so he could go to the pub, he had terrible home problems and it was his way of getting through the day, work tried to help him then they had to 'let him go' I often wonder what happened to young John:-( hugs Jan xx
