Kolots

By George P. Lumayag

Since grade seven, I’ve carried this pain,
Seizures that struck like a sudden chain.
Yet through the struggle, I still endure,
Seeking a life that feels steady, secure.
The happiest day that I ever knew,
Was when my daughter came into view.
Her tiny hands, her gentle cry,
Gave me the strength to reach the sky.

But shadows fell when bullies came,
They mocked my weakness, spoke with blame.
Depression grew, I hid away,
Embarrassment stole my will each day.
Trauma lingered, courage was gone,
I feared the classroom, feared the dawn.
Yet deep inside, a spark remained,
A hope that someday I’d break the chain.

A few lovers once crossed my way,
They made me feel like a lady each day.
But fleeting hearts could never stay,
Their promises faded, turned to gray.
Then came the man I truly adore,
My husband, my love forevermore.
Though misunderstandings cloud our skies,
My heart for him never denies.

He labors hard on land and sea,
To build a life for our family.
Day and night he bears the strain,
Yet love for us is his refrain.
I choose him still through joy and fight,
My vows remain, my soul’s delight.
For in his arms, I find my place,
A steadfast bond, a warm embrace.

Last December’s winds brought us apart,
January chilled my fragile heart.
A chatmate came to ease my pain,
A fleeting comfort in the rain.
We spoke as partners, nothing more,
Just healing words to mend the sore.
But still I longed for love’s return,
For home, for peace, my soul did yearn.

Reunited, our bleeding hearts aligned,
The hurt was healed, the wounds resigned.
Loneliness faded, pain was gone,
Two souls together, beating as one.
The bond grew stronger, love renewed,
A promise kept, a life pursued.
No storm could break what we became,
Together we rose, through loss and flame.

Now side by side we strive each day,
In livelihood’s just and honest way.
We earn for our child, we build our home,
Through trials faced, we do not roam.
I help my husband, hand in hand,
Together we labor, together we stand.
For family’s future, bright and true,
We chase the dreams that carry us through.

Though young with child, I still aspire,
To study, to climb, to reach higher.
Grade twelve awaits, a path to tread,
A diploma earned, a life ahead.
For with knowledge, doors will open wide,
A better job, a brighter stride.
Kolots, my tale of pain and grace,
A journey of love, of hope’s embrace.
