Carrie Hooper was born and raised in Elmira, New York. She has been blind since birth. She received a Bachelor’s degree in music performance from Mansfield University and Master’s degrees in German and vocal performance from University of Buffalo. She studied one year at the Royal University College of Music in Stockholm, Sweden as a Fulbright Scholar. From 2002 to 2019 Carrie taught German, Italian, and Romanian at Elmira College. She currently teaches voice and piano lessons, plays the piano and organ at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Horseheads, New York, sings with Common Time Choral Group, and gives vocal concerts. In addition to teaching and other musical activities, Carrie enjoys learning foreign languages and writing poetry. She is proficient in German, Italian, Spanish, Swedish, Albanian, and Romanian. She has published three collections of poetry, and her work has appeared in several online publications. She has also translated text from Albanian to English and from Romanian to English.
