How the Tree Grows

How The Tree Grows
by Jonn'a Houck
Just a seed that's planted
in the midst of a forest.
With no way to determine how life was
before it fell in the soil.
It's like being stranded,
so without direction, he's not expected to be strong.
But if he's a fighter,
then nothing will ever get in the way of him reaching his goal.
So through fierce storms with rage winds
still trying to make a way through.
Given everything to be more than just a seed
and determination developed its roots.
At first light, all seems amazing
and even though he's so small in his stature.
He seeks out the tallest tree and says,
“I'm gonna be even bigger than this one.”
Now many crows done crossed his path,
even squirrels told jokes that made him mad.
“You're just a wee big kiddo,
one strike of lightning will tear you in half.”
Still, he would never pay them much attention,
he knew that every tree in the forest was different.
Even though in essence they were all the same,
he believes he was put here on a mission.
So for many years, he carried on,
facing the coldest winter's that life brought on.
Until that day he opens up his eyes,
to see that his dream had taken form.
There were no other tree's to block the sky,
no crows to make fun of his size.
He became much bigger than he imagined
and it was at the moment he wanted to cry.
He was home to many birds and nests,
some monkeys would even swing across his branch.
What made him smile was the fact he made it to him,
he felt like he passed a test.
There was no one to lend a hand to hold,
no one to teach a seed to grow.
It was only by faith he was able to achieve,
one of the greatest stories ever told.

In Citation For Liberation

In citation For Liberation
by: Jonn'a Houck
Liberation,
which comes from the root word liberate.
Which means to free from domination by a foreign power.
Freed from or opposed to traditional social and sexual attitudes.
Which is liberated.
So this is not just a poem
but for the man that no longer think as a child.
but seeks the knowledge to get out of the corrupt state,
in other words, to be educated.
You see my generation is lost
and all my teachers were ignorant
my teachers were a bunch of robbers and drugs dealers
whose minds was confined to a state of belligerence.
So everything they gave me was the opposite of benevolence.
Now, as of today, I strive for excellence.
Not for my acceptance but as a man I feel it's my duty
to provide my people with something more precious than jewelry.
To bring awareness that our women
shouldn't be defined by the size of her chest or booty,
but by the intelligence of her mind.
Which is often exercised by the men that she's screwing.
See y'all really don't understand me
It may seem like I'm going off course
but I'm still inciting freedom.
I just want to give you some point of reason
I just want you to know its a shame
that our life force is given to us in semen
Yet, we constantly waste it away for carnal pleasing.
Walking around head high and chest poked out like we know it all,
quick to a call a women bitch but do that makes you a frog?
I guess we up and forgot where we come from,
I guess we found out how much a dollar can change a nation.
I guess we see the influence Europeans had on our spiritual makeup.
Our ancestors that shed their blood in this country is probably ashamed of us.
Yet I'm still inciting freedom y'all.
The truth is unalterable and universal
the truth can either set you free
or it can hurt you.

I Am

I Am

By: Jonna Houck

I am a soldier I stand alone
no place in the world is better than home.
I wonder about life and how it ends
I hear the joy of children playing with friends.
I see a world that’s almost good
I want life to be perfect if it could.

I am a soldier I stand alone.
I pretend to be no one I am who I am
I feel I can’t be a boy, I am a man.
I touch people hearts so they could feel
I worry about people dying each day of the year.
I cry for mother’s who loss their child
sometimes it’s hard to make a smile.

I am a soldier I stand alone.
I understand this world but not the actions
I say I dream for peace tribulation.
I try to make people understand what I say
I hope for peace and better days.

I am a soldier I stand alone.
I am not perfect but I try to do right
that why I sit quietly out of your sight.
In my life, I’ve made mistakes but I also learned
that life is like a maze with twist & turns.
One day you're on top of the world without a problem at all
until one unexpected phone call, makes everything fall.
So yes life’s a bitch from what I have seen
that’s why I choose to be no one … no one but me.

I am a soldier I stand alone.
