Moon and Night

There was a battle
Between darkness and light
The moon and the night
As hard as it fought
Night was no match
The stars glowered in envy
Eclipsed by her outreaching glow
For the moon reigned over all
As if a lighthouse
Hung in the heavens
Shedding her light
To guide lost souls

Yearning

Under a blanket of layered dust
Sat a trinket of eternal trust
Still bound in all its glory
A remnant of a woeful story
Oh how the memories did linger
As it sought to find her finger
That’s what it craved the most
To resurrect Ella’s fleeting ghost
Ella was cheated from her love
When the Death grabbed her from up above
Her ring it was taken
Only to be forsaken
How she wished to put it on
To wakeup to the morning dawn
And turn her head and gaze at him
To hold once more her darling Jim

A Life Worth Living

Delicately wrapped in a shroud of lace
A tear trickled down her porcelain face
She wiped her eyes and stood up straight
And in anguish began her dutiful gait
Closer and closer she came to the altar
With each labored breath she began to falter
Her face grew pale and her grew eyes dim
Then she fell to the floor in longing of him
It was long ago her heart was taken
And unless she had him she would never awaken
She had almost departed when she heard his voice
He whispered softly that she had a choice
Then louder became the frantic mutters
As she took a breath and her eyes did flutter
Squeezing his hand she then felt his embrace
And all the color rushed back to her face
Then she spoke, “It is only he who I will wed
Without him I’d rather be dead.”

Naive

How terribly naïve
To believe
That you would never lie
It isn’t even a question of why
I treasured trust like a jewel
What an idealistic fool
I must be deaf I must be blind
To have thought you were so kind
I used to be so dumb
But now what a skeptic I’ve become
I thought you had class
You took a heart of gold and turned it into brass
Perhaps I should thank you
It’s the proper thing to do
Thanks for showing me people aren’t what they seem
Now I’ve awoken from my ignorant dream

Waning

Like the waning of the moon
The ethereal visage will vanish soon
Given mere moments to reconcile
To clear his name and make her smile
For when he died the truth died too
But from beneath the earth what could he do
She had recoiled realizing he was a cheat
What a web of lies wove he, what deceit
He knew he didn’t have long
To prove to her that he did no wrong
He crept quietly and opened the door
To find his beloved strewn upon the floor
Given a strange feeling she lifted her head
Only to see the face of a man she knew dead
“Why have you come to haunt me?” said she
“Leave me alone go away let me be.”
“Liza listen what you know is not right
Listen for a moment then I’ll be out of sight”
After hearing his tale there grew a smile and in her eyes gleamed a spark
His duty now fulfilled he then vanished into the dark

Unsheathed

Coaxed from its vile sheath
To appease the voices from beneath

An instrument of unruly malice
A weapon as wise as it is callous

No fool shall get past it
Only those with wit

Only Those who are wise
Who Learn not by their eyes

Only they stand a chance
They who hold their stance

Do not flinch do not waver
Unless its death you savor

Left Behind

Have you no remorse, no regret?
Am I that easy to forget?
Why do you make me cry?
You didn’t even say goodbye
Out of sight out of mind
Then left behind
I thought you kind, I thought you fair
But I doubt you even care
I guess we’re over I guess we’re through
So much for the person I thought I knew

Fear's Visit

Awoken from his midnight slumber
Fear sought a new soul to encumber

His victims he found far and wide
And never ever could they hide

Cowardice became their only friend
Until he led them to their end

Yet if they tried to be so bold
To throw off Fear’s constricting hold

Cowardice would no longer linger
They alone could lift Fear’s finger

Hurry along you mustn’t tarry
Unless you want to make him wary

If you desire him to go awry
All you need is to catch his eye

And when you do you mustn’t blink
Do not waver do not think

Now tis time to do him in
Just laugh and you will always win

The Divinity of Snow

All was quiet
No voice to be heard
Save the whisperings of the wind
The shadows dancing
The moon aglow
An aura of purity resonating
Undisturbed
As if a momentary prelude
Of divine forgiveness
A blank slate if you will
As I sat perched by the open window
Breathing the frigid air
I knew never would I be immune
To the powers of newly fallen snow

Stagnant

Life gone stagnant
Like an idling boat at sea
No beacon in sight
Just left to drift
To the whim of time
Let the winds blow
Let the currents push
The vessel of my existence
Anywhere but here
