My African Sun

MY AFRICAN SUN
[BY OHWOJEVWE ESE GANIYU]
My African sun
Hot as you may
Be measured with
Hot or cold instruments
You still mean
So much more to
Us in the African continent
When we wake up
In the mornings
We feel joyous
To see you standing
In the East
And when the birds
And hens are
Homeward bound to roost
That is the right
Time to behold
God’s best gift
Of nature.

Oye

“OYE” (“HARMATTAN”)
[BY OHWOJEVWE ESE GANIYU]

When
	On harmattan wings
Flapped iced
Into my oblongata cold
Into moneyless sadness
Of our Saussure’s paper
Locked in
Folic signified signifier
In language
Too much mystique in
Folic signifier signified
Till tides come
When
On glorious dawns day
We acknowledge
That those potholes
We
Wobbled our way through
In
Thorns trumpeted
Into our ears
Too congealed
To hear Bata drums
Hypnotizing us
Into spag queens hall.

Akunbga My Woman

“AKUNGBA MY WOMAN”
[BY OHWOJEVWE ESE GANIYU]

Just as
Fast as my heat
Has reached
Its peak
Savoring you
With sensuous eyeballs
Hoping
This time to
Get the thrill
I insert
My money
My phallic strength
Hoping to ignite
Batteries of
Multiple organisms
But yet
You laid there
In your book forest
Another of your pride
I have to overcome
And when
The sex play is all over
My multiple laurels…
Then reality knocks
At my door
As I opened
To my convocation
The doctorate mission (in) complete.

Ethiope Riverside

“ETHIOPE RIVERSIDE”
[BY OHWOJEVWE ESE GANIYU]

How come
We once paddled our canoe
Along river Ethiope
And nobody saw us
Come and go
Till tides come
When sweet memories
Of Ethiope riverside
We cannot remember
Is it those delta bitches
At the river motel
It is those water baths
Where we saw people
Pulled into the river
Drowned in the river
Dive into the river
Whose waterbed you see
From the riverside
Of Ethiope river
Hence they tell
Their natives
Not to go to their river
When tis tides
To mark the annual
Drowning in the festival
Where mother Ethiope
Must swallow alive
One internet book seeker
Whose immersion is alive
While their resurrection
Is stone dead
Half breathing
Half dying
From the waveless flow
Of the waters
At Ethiope riverside.

Just the Way We Are

JUST THE WAY WE ARE

When on Friday morn'
we woke up hastily
children rushed to school
parents rushed to resume work
heavy traffic
hopping from one bus to another
hiked transport fares were hurridly forgotten
and town hall meetings we must attend
classes take backdrops
raindrops mixed with teardrops fell on our cheeks
three years of hard work retracted
who do we tell our silent sobs
wasted midnight candles
burnt whilst we tried to meet new promotion templates
is it a crime to work hard?
is it a crime to remain in the dark continent?
or is it...
just the way we are.

Soon It Will Be Twenty Nineteen

Soon it will be twenty nineteen
and i'm yet to pay my children's school fees
i have gone a borrowing
i have become a solitary beggar
and
not a single humankind left
that heeds my plea
i will cry to my creator
my everlasting city of refuge.
