Unity Within the Tribe

Where there is strength
you will find unity.
Let there be no more division.
May the grandfather spirits
place forgiveness in your hearts, and soften them
while pride moves out of the way.
May the blood you share become strong
and never again be poisoned by
un forgiveness and hate.
Can't you hear the songs
the warrior spirits are singing
about lost battles, broken families
and battle scars?
May their cries ring in your ears
reminding you
some warriors never come home
from their battles.
May the rains come down
on both of you and
wash away the war paint,
so you may recognize each other.
May the skies above thunder
as grandfather spirits dance
a dance of remembrance.
May your paths cross again
and the winds join together
what has long been separated.
May spirits of wisdom guide
both of you toward your destiny.
And may father time heal
all wounds.

If Your Heart Isn'T Big Enough

If your heart isn't big enough
your arms will be too weak to hold someone
who aches to be held
If you close your mind to someone's need
you will never lay eyes on the beautiful flower
that could've been, had you paid attention
If you turn away
your ears may never hear
the words that were almost spoken

The Desert

When winter storms depart
spring is in a desert's heart
Days are long
as hills are steep
Under the sand
memories sleep
Look out over
nothing but land
There's only
the sky and the sand
The sun lights
the burning plains
And clouds refuse
to send the rains
At night
restless winds blow
And all is still
on earth below
The stars shine
brightly overhead
The sun rises and sets
above each bed

Life of a Flower

A flower needs sunlight
and water to grow
How much of each is
your job to know

If you drown it with water
or burn in with sunlight
Your flower will never
reach its full height

If you choose to ignore it
it'll wilt before your eyes
If you leave it alone too long
silently your flower dies

Never Enough

I knew in my heart we were no longer one
It was less than a year and you were already done
We were new parents with a little girl
I assumed we would be priorities in your world
You had other plans unknown to me
My husband no longer belonged just to me
I tried and I cried all that I could
I prayed for you to do what you should
I don't understand why I wasn't enough for you?
Or why this marriage was so tough for you?
We dreamed out loud our future together
We made vows with tears and promised forever
Remember the times you swore you would change?
Then whose life was it that got rearranged?
I begged for counseling right from the start
You gave your word then took no part
I look back and I see all the fighting and crying
It could've been better had you really been trying
How many times did you ask me for space?
And say "don't sweat me, get out of my face"
Then you smile and say what I want to hear
Becoming a better liar with every single tear
Your words say so much but actions speak less
You play with my head and leave my emotions a mess

The Taste of Bittersweet

To feel pleasure or to feel pain
funny how they feel the same
You butter me up and buy me a smile
the monster inside you I forget for a while
Tearful nights and angry dawns
yet you believe "nothing's wrong"
Close the wound and hide the scar
so no one knows who you really are
You say sorry countless times
playing your game and fooling my mind
So I build a fortress around my heart
walls like rock you can't tear apart
Let your fury rise and then fall
but I'll show you no fear behind my wall
They say love hurts and so I stay
but in the end a price you'll pay

Angels By Your Side

Each day begins with hopes and dreams
a silent prayer, the ruffle of wings

Angels build bridges and tear down walls
they follow closely to catch our falls

They hold your hand and guide toward light
ever vigilent, day and night

Through your travels, over the years
many an angel wiped your tears

Dear Sir

If I should die before my time
i'll leave this poem for you to find
I know you'll have a happy life
no more of my drama and our strife
The love we shared gave me new hope
the promises we made helped me to cope
The problems we had no one's to blame
we're just vicitms of life's cruel game

Yellow Roses

I WROTE THIS WHEN I WAS 12 OR 13 SO IT'S A LITTLE JUVENILE

While walking in the park
I saw a yellow rose
It reminded me of our love
and how I hope it grows

The petals so colorful, vibrant and bright
it seemed to sparkle in the sun
when I held it to the light

I picked a handful
enough to give to you
A token of my love
not sure what else to do

Missing You

I tried to understand you
and why you hurt me so
But I couldn't be without you
I couldn't let you go
I knew you never loved me
though I tried to make it true
But you were just hustling
just "doing what you do"
Now I spend my time reflecting
how many years have passed
And how our relationship
went way too fast
I miss every thing about you
every single day
And I'm still lost without you
no matter what I say
