Oh Child Do You Know

A Father’s Love

Oh child can you feel the sweet touch of a father’s hug

that caresses worry away and fills the heart with love

a foundation for your life with actions of great intent

and abounding selfless devotion with no regret

Oh child do you realise the sacrifices to be made

hand in hand as he gently guides your every move

pride in watching your independence blossom

but fearing life will call you from his protective arms

Oh child can you see how his heart aches as he picks you up

giving you courage to face adversity wiping away the tears

the hurt in his eyes when trust is broken by wilfulness

but forgiveness in abundance and unfaltering love

Oh child savour the joy as he looks upon your face

as your eyes meet there is reflection of his younger self

words unspoken but a smile shared with the same tilt of the head

emulation of him in so many ways to leave no doubt

Father and child sharing such special moments

engrossed in happy conversation that overshadows

the challenges to come that will test their bond

Comfort of the soul when cocooned in his caress

and for that special moment, life is kept at a distance.

Weathered Old Biker

OLD WEATHERED BIKER

Come sit by my side and stories be told
of bikes and good times on open road
Winding our way to destinations desired
under wind, rain and sun all mired
Nature reminding us of its command
take in its grandeur from hills to sand
Conversation with those who are there
living the dream with experiences to share
A beer, a laugh and a wave goodbye
we will meet again when the day is nigh

Old boots now sit with leather in strife
a revealing glimpse to a wilder life
Us replicas as dust gathers round
weathered old men riding wheels to the ground
Once young and full of passionate desire
now happy to reminisce by an open fire

Come sit by my side and I will reveal
life lived unabashed and truly real
Man and his bike forever entwined
till death do part and one left behind
