Beneath the Apple Tree

In the wind or in the sea
Are you beneath the apple tree
In my dreams I'm there again
Living life without the pain

A part of me is scattered too
From that void reserved for you
Conker one and conker two
In a jar just me and you

In Niamh's eyes I see it all
From the tree the fruit will fall
Never landing, forever longer
With each new bud a little stronger

In the wind you have no fears
To compensate for all those years
Pause your peace for just one day
And help me chase the grief away

A long lost smile upon your face
You are in a better place
Your in the wind and in the sea
And beneath the apple tree

I Want

I want

Is “I want” our right to take,
To break a heart will be too late,
For every broody wanting thought,
Is it better to abort.

They do not ask to play this game,
If granting wishes was the aim,
The game of life they’re summoned to,
With no choice but to see it through.

Would they want the chance to love,
And smile up at us above,
If along with love came war and hate,
To shadow them till heavens gate.

A selfish want is all we need,
To take the steps to sow a seed,
But is it fair to make a choice,
For a future child without a voice.

The questioned balance of good and bad,
Was answered in a dream I had,
The family dream will have to wait,
Our want is in the hands of fate.

If a baby does not grow,
Is there a reason we should know,
To create a child in this world is crazy,
Yet we still want a little baby.

I love you more than words can say,
And hand in hand we take each day,
To be loved by us ‘ their mom and dad’,
Has answered any doubt I had.

Fear

Fear

From out of the dark daddy was there,

with a blotchy red face and messy bed hair.

Checking me out, my fingers my toes,

from the bottom of my feet to my ears and my nose.

In a new nappy, I looked up at his face,

with big shaky hands, he held me in place.

A silent tiptoe, in every night,

to check on my breathing, to check I’m alright.

The pick of his dreams, before I was here,

a dream now replaced by irrational fear.

Some people he knows ridicule and they laugh,

but I know why my grapes are in half.

One tug or two on my seatbelts a rule,

but 17 makes him look like a fool.

So come on daddy, please stop your cry’s,

I am ok, look at me, in my eyes.

Don’t spend your life thinking “it’s bad” and “what if”,

it’s just a cold daddy, a little cough and a sniff.

Hurt from a boy, being unfaithful and unkind,

is already a thought floating around in your mind.

One day when you’re gone, you’ll be free from a scare,

because i learnt from you daddy, to be safe and take care.

I’ll die an old lady, tucked up in my bed,

With my life’s dreams, ticked off in my head.
