That Ship Has Sailed

“Oh that ship has sailed..”
Shaking his head, following her voice as it trailed
He smiles to himself, ’give it time’, he knew, rays of Joy crack through disdain

It was love at first sight, the surround greyed and paled
Spotting this electric eccentric, dancing in the rain
“Oh that ship has sailed..”

As time flowed by, he knew how they’d not failed
He is her best friend through all; hysterical laughter to anguish and pain
He smiles to himself, ‘give it time’, he knew, rays of Joy crack through disdain

She loves him wholehearted, though never been veiled
On the news of their daughter, he’d tried proposing, in vain
“Oh that ship has sailed..”

Now soo much older, their matured rich love haled
She is both bubbly and light, and a grumpy old pain
He smiles to himself, “give it time’, hew knew, rays of Joy crack through disdain

She turns to face him, happy laughter regaled
He takes her hand, “So about that sword cane…”
“Oh that ship has sailed..”
He smiles to himself, ‘give it time’, he knew, rays of Joy crack through disdain

Terry Pratchett

I could murder a curry, Death mumbled under his voice
A Terry Pratchett icon in his fantastic discworld universe
Imagination…the inspiration of many
This legend awe inspiring…
Every book, every tale
Breathing new life into each
Even as his was failing
A small token of homage
For soo many hours spent
Ensconced in his world
All his characters my friends
Feeling familial traits even in luggage, the many legged suitcase
I explore tiffs world with her little blue men
And my heart broke with all, when granny Weatherwax saw her end
My favourite character to be sure, i cried and cried
I only lived that book once as it crushed me inside
So I re read the old tales where she’s living a new
All the while feeling that her character was you
I broke just as much, when I heard you were gone
The end of an era, new tales now anon
A tribute to my favourite author anew
We all drop our hats..
Terry Pratchett it’s you

The Elfin Wars

The war is ever-nearer to the boarders of this land
Seeping forward through the woods
Releasing acrid echoes of doom ahead on energetic tongues of stowaways
Lucky to survive their ordeal
Here they are welcomed, and in this cozy tavern
Their woes are hidden in the shadows while they warm their feet by the fire, regaling their heroic tales of escape;
growing ever grander with the generous plying of ‘the innkeeper’s secret’ special brew
‘It’s a secret,’ he tells me, as I take a sip;
Warm amber fills my mouth, washing my throat with a sense of sweet spicy sunshine..
Suddenly I know, how despite being closest to the edge of conflict, this tavern will be Sanctuary …
Spying the patrons and the ever arriving newcomers from my shaded alcove seat;
Spotting frantic newcomers; a beacon of fear in a sea of jovial patrons slurring songs of old, arm in arm with one another
It’s not hard to see that this tavern if filled with patrons from both sides…
But it seems that the only person seeing this…is me
‘How do you do it?’ I ask under my breath, reluctant to destroy this mirage of comfort before me.
‘It’s a secret,’ he smiles, melting into the crowd.
I try to follow, but my legs are soo heavy, anchoring my flying torso to my seat, my will fighting my body to stay in the now,
´HOW!’ I shout out, a cry of desperation …
He turns back, only once, with a cheeky smile and a wink for good measure … then he is gone … like he never was
I wake to the sound of twittering birds in a cove of dappled sunshine, before me a meadow where once stood a cozy tavern…
All that remains; a tangled arch of wisteria and jasmine …
And the eerie susurrations of songs of old,
Inviting all in … to the toadstool ring.

We See What We Want To See

Driving down the old sand road
headlights shade potholes in the dark
Drive slowly with your precious load
to the bus stop where we park

Back on the sand and heading home dark skies shading to greys
pastel hues foretell the sun
Twilight gives way with brilliant blinding rays
a bright dawn it has begun

Now those dusty dark roads with all their flaws
as dull as dull can be
Magically transformed with reflected light
as bright as the sun on sea

Silhouette life on rainbow skies
photographers dream birth of a new day
Birdlife abounds this old sand road
watch quietly as they play

Its lighter now crystal skies so blue
and I’ve finally reached my gate
Lift club can be dull that is true
but I simply cannot wait

Breathe

Breathe my name on the wind and you’ll find me
In those soft shivers
That murmur in the dark
That rustling whisper of laughs
We tried so hard to conceal
As we tiptoed out into to the moonlight

Sigh my name under the stars and you’ll find me
Where we wrestled and rolled in passions embrace
under the lunar light in her shimmering velvet skies

Utter my name on bated breath and I will find you
Feeling you gasp as I take your hand in mine
Your sparkling eyes …
Your triumphant grin, your hearts rat-a-tatting drumbeat roll
You guessed you may find me, where you never had before

Under your skin you felt me,
Felt my breath on your neck as we shared sweet secrets,
As I felt you breathe in my gasp that first time,
and utter out a gentle whisper of reassurance on a blissful sigh
….a murmur of devotion as you reached your peak, tumbling into ecstasy
Waking to the first rays of dawn, sunrise never better than in your arms
hand in hand we stammered our farewells…

I carried you with me in my heart… as you have carried me under your skin
… yes I remember
after all this time I still feel you … as you feel me
A slow smile and all angst disappears
we melt to one, united in embrace
This gentle spark igniting a furnace of passion
soaring on fiery wings of ardour’s clashing titans
Through fervors blazing heat
only one thought cuts the suffocating intensity
…..Breathe…

Serenity

I roam through this forest of vibrant hues
Lush plants of bright greens
Deep shadows of blues

I amble along at contentments pace
Soft moss on bare feet
Dreamy smile on my face

No sense of urgency swallows my steps
I wander freely
Exploring its depths

Sheets of sheer mist dance down a small path
the tickling sensation
making me laugh

Natures wet kisses upon my skin
Gooseflesh erupts
Tailing tingles within

I shake off a shudder running down my spine
Dew drops on my neck
Standing under the Pine

Golden rays dimming to crimson beams
Nighttime has come
In the forest of my dreams

Life's Poetic Progeny

I dream of simpler days
Of chivalry and blooming skirts
Of Innocence
When poetry flowed from the heart
And the love felt there was true
When joy was real…
Take my hand and lead me into the past,
Your past
Let me dream with you
walk in your memories
re-live your experiences
Hand in hand,
Show me the very sun, that lights up your sky
That voice, that smile, that twinkle in your eye
I know that look … Ascending into better bygone times
I love that look, I am ready
Teach me your wisdom
Tell me your tales, advise me
Let me walk that mile with you in your shoes
Let me bask in the glory of Your Life’s Legacy

It Only Seems That Way

‘It looks soo dark and gloomy’
It only seems that way,
You haven’t yet seen the beauty of the rising sun

‘The day is soo grey’
It only seems that way,
You haven’t yet smelled the fresh alluring aroma of the rain watered earth

‘This is impossible, I will never get it right’
It only seems that way,
You haven’t yet noticed that by the very spelling Im-Possible; there are endless possibilities awaiting, each adventure exposing you to new riches of knowledge

‘I can’t do it’
It only seems that way,
You haven’t yet tried all the keys to open the lock

‘The night is soo dark and I can’t sleep’
It only seems that way,
You haven’t yet opened your curtain; see the twinkling stars and Luna’s light.
Open your window and let the crickets serenade you into slumber

‘The hard times come, and I am soo alone’
It only seems that way,
You haven’t yet noticed my arms around you, holding you gently in my embrace

You are soo loved, soo cherished, soo adored,
Even in the hardest of times, when you feel you can’t go on
It only seems that way,
The silver lining is waiting to lead you out of the inky abyss,
All you need to do is look up and follow

Take a deep breath and know;
You are soo much stronger than you think you are
You are soo much more than you ever dreamed
The world is your oyster to conquer and achieve
And all things are possible,
If you only dare to believe.

The Little Things

It's the little things
The little things that make you smile
the small sparkles of joy
that cluster and dot your day
Like little diamonds of wonder
Glittering light through the darkness
Collect the little things
Cherish them for the rare treasures they are
Adorn yourself with them
see them shimmer and shine
a twinkling crown of stars
bathing you in their light
Feel them seep into your skin and warm your soul
Be a vessel, Let joys tranquil light illuminate you
replenish and imbue you
as it brims and surges out of you
in a gust of laughter and a dazzling smile
Share your joy with others
Be a beacon of gentle light
that refracts off their little things
and shows them the way
Teach them as you have learned
To be happy every day

Twilight Hours

In the twilight hours I lie
On my back face-up closed-eyes facing the sky
I am clarity
Not fully awake or asleep
Free of prejudiced mind and sanity
And my mind wanders
Snippets of thoughts and assessments
Judgements and decisions made
Random thoughts tucked away
Hurts never let out to play
In the twilight I feel that pain
When awake brain hid it ‘cause there was nothing to gain
Here I'm feeling it raw, festering
And I'm angry
I can't let it go, it’s me it's poisoning
There's no awake brain here
No balm of calm to salve my wounds
I feel the hateful venom rising
Rising like the sun is rising
It’s getting closer now my angry heart drumming
It burns my skin and flatlines
Disapparating into sleepy fog
Dawn obliterates those thoughts
On the first rays of sunshine cascading through my room

In the twilight hours I lie
Drifting through random thoughts, dreams
Aspirations so true soo deeply hidden
Here glowing they are blinding
A supernova of hearts desires
No awake brain here to say no
Hopes’ soft whisper comforts, caresses
Encouraging first gently, more urgent with every breath
Write down, write them down
I pen bleary-eyed
Skew scripts of random words
No sooner put to paper
Are gone in an eruption of peace
Deep sleep overcomes

In the twilight hours I lie
Less awake more asleep
No words, no thoughts, no views
No anger, no judgement, no dreams
Hopes’ whispers silenced
There's no peace here
Ever-growing is a throbbing flame of passion
As painful as it is beautiful
All-consuming its’ searing heat all-encompassing
Fuelled by the anger burning up
Judgement already ashes on whirls of Thoughts and burnt leashes
Dreams freed and Aspirations crowning
Hope releasing sparks ever further
It's a furnace and it has risen
Demanding, suffocating, it howls its’ release
I scribble words desperately
Grasping tails of fire as they burn my fingers
Still I hold on
My charred hands nothing to the rising view, the phoenix flies
For a moment I see everything
It's clear and devastating and breathtakingly beautiful
This time awake brain has seen it too
Capturing all it could to relive this moment in wakeful hours
As I tumble down into blissful slumber

Time has passed
Awake brain long since exhausted its captured fire
Now in the twilight hours I lie
More awake, less asleep
Awake brain longs to explore those musings
But all is quiet, serene
All that's left is Hopes’ softest whisper
That drifts away on the morning light
‘Keep going, Passions’ wings are only a locked dream away’
