Pictures In My Mind

Pictures in My MInd
My granddaughter sits tall in the saddle
on a white horse she calls Shadow
My grandson struggles to ride his bike
the first time with out trainers
Three year old James flies by on his skooter
saying watch maw maw what I can do
These are pictures in my mind.
Their mom watches proudly as her children grow
Blonde haired just like his mom Grady James
looks just like she did at age two
Now she is all a glow pregnant with her second
My hubby and I sit in our rockers on the deck
watching the grandchildren play
One chasing a paper airplane, one catching a
ball the other dancing with a hoola hoop.
More beautiful pictures in my mind.
A redbird sits on a fence post a worm dangling
from his beak
I see a yellow and black butterfly trying to
land on a bush in the wind
These pictures i hold dear in my mind for you
see blindness has taken my eyes
These are the picutures only in my mind. As they
grow through the years they will always look this
way to me happy and carefree and proud in my mind.

Thank You Big City

Thank you Big City for the new buildings and the new stores and the new street lights,
thank you for the new neighborhoods, thank you for the new houses, thank you for the new roads, thank you for the big new factories.

Thank you from the deer that have no where to run but the road. Thank you from the birds that have no trees to build their nest. Thank you from the stars which cannot be seen for the street lights. Thank you from the trees that gave their life for the houses. And most of all thank you from the fireflies whose life will be wiped out by all the progress.

Thank you from the children who can't play in the woods and climb the trees and be just kids.
Thank you from the children that will never get to play with the fireflies and be amazed by their glow.

thank you Big City for all your progress.

She Loves Horses

She Loves Horses

Born into a world of strife
She has led such a difficult life
Smart beyond her tiny years
A child filled with so many fears

But put her on a horse of white
and you will see how very quiet
her fears become
fears from one so very young

Afraid to fall asleep at night
knowing she will wake so full of fright
Pain in her legs keeping her awake
fear of sleeping she cannot shake

Abandoned by one she loves so much
hoping her dad will keep in touch
Time is slowly clearing those tears
saying goodbye to most of her fears

Riding her horse tall and proud
smiling at the cheers from the crowd
Red ribbon, Blue ribbon Champion of the show
Underneath her smile no one will ever know

Winter Silence

Low gray clouds line the sky
no chattering from the squirrels
finished with their food gathering
only silence

tiny snow birds line the fence post
the rest gone for the winter
not a sound to be heard
only silence

the snow starts to fall
smoke rises from chimney tops
the river below runs quietly over the dam
still only silence

The best time of all is when the snow just
begins to fall and everything is cuddling
up to brace against the cold
then there is only silence.

Brandons Eyes

I wonder what goes on inside
those innocent eyes he tried to hide
Teary eyes that wonder why he can't
run as fast
watching as others go running past
Hurtful eyes when he wonders why his words
didn't come out right
Determined eyes as he pedals his bike
up a hill, a monstorous fight
Scared eyes as he asks what is this
doctor gonna do
Satisfied eyes as he wins the race
on his gamecube
Sleepy eyes at night
as he hugs his bear so tight
Tears in my eyes as a watch I keep
on his innocent eyes fast asleep.
