Nothing In Life Is Permanent

Why is life so complex?
Why am I feeling vexed?
Pulling one way,
Not feeling one has any say,
Too much involved
For the problem to be solved,
Not wanting to disrupt,
Feeling all is corrupt,
Fire stations closing across the land,
Waving goodbye with a heavy hand,
Hospital consultants contending to be at the top,
All feeling scared they’ll be given the chop,
Large organisations forced to accept a ‘reshuffle’
Making history in one big kerfuffle,
Nostalgia plays heavy in many hearts,
Watching their lives torn into ‘parts’
Thinking of others afar,
With dilemmas of this kind not on a par,
Absent family over the deck,
Drowned children in a shipwreck,
And in war-torn lands, pulled apart
citizens with broken hearts,
Earthquake destroying land in one tear,
People losing hope in prayer,
Solace is not easy to find,
Throughout humankind,
Just a quiet acknowledgment,
That nothing in life is permanent.

Home In January

Back with a SLAP to this British chill
Hard to find the WILL
Empty purse - can't get much worse!
Washing basket up to the brim,
Everyone on social media wishing to be thin
Unjust when other nations are perishing
We were tipsily relishing
We indulged in food and booze
Then flaked out on the sofa for a snooze!
That we have plenty is not an offence,
but a sad call now for abstinence.

Theresa May What Should We Say

Oh May,
What should we say?
Turning around the U.K in this way
Many react with dismay
Others shouting hooray!
Can we have our cake and eat it in a jiffy?
As soon as we have triggered Article fifty?
Can she be so clear
To cause such fear?
In Europe and in Blighty
Is she speaking eruditely?
Some liken her to Thatcher
Can she match her?
Yet another tremor in UK's political earthquake
causing further trepidation for what will be at stake
For some a disquieting unease
While others are content even pleased
Not knowing what our neighbour's admit
causing more prudence to every Brit
Employees having to be displaced
In a Brexit Race
Or choosing to stay in the UK and lose employment
Is this what we call enjoyment?
Oh May
What should we say?
Between denial and rationalisation we ricochet

A Faux-Pas of a Celebration

Exultant excitability chase
Leaving a bad taste
A faux-pas of a celebration
In place of jubilation
Camera smiles full of lies
All the party in disguise
Veiled in ceremonious style
Triumphant distractions to beguile
Hush-hush in a clamorous hilarity
A dressed-up gaiety
Revelling with wine and in consternation
Addled and unable to form an illation
The after-truth hurt multiplied
Feelings of exclusion intensified
The devil has been sold a soul through the back door
Of someone I adore

Claire

Bewildering frustration
Adoration
Admiration,
For a life-long friend
Gone:
Leaving
Desolation.

You left in a hurry,
So much left undone
But you could not run.

Darkness left its claw,
On you a sister, daughter and friend we all adore,
A beautiful person, outside and in
Our Heroine:

No tenebrous arm
Will do you harm
Forever we appreciate
Your wit and humour resonate,
Your honesty and kindness magnified
Glamour and Style - so dignified.

Vibrant and
Raw
Your warmth will last for evermore.

A unique star,
A ray of inspiration,
Guiding us through our devastation.

Your patience and humility will never cease
Dear Claire please Rest in Peace.

Fearful

Fearful of taking the leap;
Fleeing an alleged stability
Wonder struck – can my devotion be so deep?
Resigned to a prevention of ability

Escape this captured state?
Scared of rejection
Cowering from the pain you may aggravate
Not understanding the complexion

Perchance I have been conditioned
To accept and commit;
Wronged into position
Ashamed at wanting to quit

I’ve taken the easy option
Remaining on a rocking vessel
Preceding with caution
Emotions all a wrestle

He blows hot and cold
Insulting words then beautiful flowers;
I know it’s wrong to be controlled
But charm empowers

I’m a ship aground;
A story untold
A pulling tide restrained to the sand
A flower unable to unfold

I’m a boat marooned;
You’re young and yet to settle
You’ve chosen a rose that cannot bloom -
a bird entangled in nettles

A Preoccupation

The United Kingdom – which direction?
Is there any detection
Of a slight hesitation
As all this political diction
Is becoming an addiction
HardBrexit, a continual affixation
A convulsive sensation
A preoccupation
A bloggers’ fixation
Journalists’ devoration
No time for devocation
Unable to form an illation
Or a resolute speculation
Submitting to trepidation
For our Nation
There is no sedation
To the daily news digestion
Just a torrent of unanswered questions
And a snap General Election

Mum

At mine she forgot her jacket and her phone,
All over Christmas and New Year she’s been on her own,
I found the phone today,
Returning home after 10 days away,
I’d wondered why my mum had never called me on my birthday.
She had been ill
She had no Will
To let people see her sick in her hoarded home,
I couldn’t contact her as she’d forgotten her phone.

Truth

Faced with the truth one can feel bruised,
dejected, cut down and confused.
Wanting to rewind the past
hoping the feeling won’t last.
Not able to swallow or to believe
that niggling feeling, that just won’t leave.
The day is the same no object in disarray.
Routine has not changed and night has turned to day.
Standards obscured, puzzled and sad,
crossing my fingers, praying it’s a fad,
Distraction temporarily soothes the ache,
but will it prevent the final heartbreak?

Until Tomorrow

In an increasingly competitive world
It’s easy to stop:
Go to the shop
Buy a tea with a chocolate shortbread
Bury your head.
Starting out when everyone else did years ago
Another wrinkle, another blemish
Its easy to stop:
I should be teaching
Not studying
Employing
Not applying
Well, for 15 years I paid my taxes
Is that enough?
She’s foreign and she’s got a job
She applied from her country and came here and started work immediately
She lost her job, got another in a week
She changed her career, didn’t like it, changed back again and got a job
Wet washing smelling from being too long in the machine,
Cleaning the microwave plate,
Picking up broken toy handcuffs from the floor,
No time to clear the paraphernalia that comes through the door
Odd socks strewn carelessly
Dirty children’s underpants staring up at me
Empty WOTSIT packets under the sofa
The rush of London passes me by
I sigh,
Another day
Of trying to be someone
Trying to achieve something
Trying to fulfil
Losing the will
Do it I will!!!
I’m still
Today I’ll wrap up
And put away
Until tomorrow
