Puzzle Pieces

Puzzle pieces of a family
Expected to fit within each other
Line up as a perfect match for the final picture
Displaying impeccable designs flowing together
Their distinctable puzzle had wear and tear
Taping the broken and bent pieces together
Ignoring the neglect of the stepped on pieces
Ones that were torn apart, glued together,
Expecting to be viewed the same
The smaller pieces trying to fill the bigger gaps,
Larger pieces try to squeeze into their tiny spaces
Trying to get out if taking responsibility,
By filling in an easier role in the puzzle
A development of strategy begins
Meetings with new pieces of tape,
Other types of glue to fix the problem
Not even duct tape can solve this puzzle
Distant glazing may appear a little blurry,
But up close, it's taped repetitive times
The pieces no longer flows from one to another

Tired Tires

"We're all vehicles cruising down a road
Fresh quadruplets screwed on,
One for each corner

At first, the tires friction if sharp
Brighter than a sun in July
Gas on the same roads we took yesterday

The hills stay the same,
Routes never change
Overtime, the road can scrape up the tires

Every heartbreak, every tear shed,
They're just more friction and rocks,
Added onto the gravel road

Overtime, we all become worn like tires
What some people don't realize,
We need a break to trade our tires in,
For a refreshment to start a smoother ride"

Magnets

"Picking up two magnets,
Mirrored in shape
Smooth as feather,
Stronger than this weather

Attempting to bend physics around
This force holds them back
Trying harder strains both their hearts
Destined to fall off the side

One tries to get close,
While the other pushes away
We're like magnets,
But not meant to be together"

Quicksand

Quicksand
Written: 5-8-16

“Staring at a rose bush from a distance
It’s truth hid behind its beauty
Falling off a cliff, hoping you might be catched
Knowing deep down, he never will

His perspective on life had me falling
I fell into a quicksand pit,
Didn’t realize I was sinking
Months went by without knowing

Certain songs played strangled my brain
They told me that time could solve this
Curious about its purpose, yet blank stare
Brain disconnected from my heart

My time and feelings were swept away
Broom of memories all in a picture now
Thoughts of affection together would poison me
Expectations of the future would shatter my heart

He’s in love with someone else,
Those loves songs are for a different circuit
All those heart pounding moments,
Were just pointless exercises on your heart

Circumstances, timing, and judgement
Those things will always be glued to him
Take a step back, and unleash yourself
There’s other dogs in the park to love”

Lion

Asking my heart for it's reason behind it's tug
"Why does this magnet seem so strong to this person?"
"Can't I find a cure to make this all dissolve?"
Heart is on a leash from barking three insane words

Three birthdays pass as this Lion develops
Every moment, every thought
Pressure within; yanking at this leash
Watching as the fabric tears apart
Fragile threads hold it slightly,
Yet the Lion inside still rages

Road construction makes the journey tough
Illegal mountains set in place,
Female names glide right out of your mouth
Comparing their qualities to gold and silver
Leaving me feeling like a rusty nail
Wanting to feel like a picked flower, not squashed grass

My facial expressions are cloudy,
But my heart is a growling Lion for its prey
The teeth are eating me alive inside
Claws of insecurity rip my flesh in pieces
Regretting this circuit from my heart to my thoughts,
Yet, I can't find a plug to make it stop flowing

Guarded Heart

"Grabbing ahold of my feelings with outstretched arms
Clutching it with my fists and throwing them in a cage
Locking away the poison eating me from the inside
Ropes that pulled around my neck the stronger the belief
Just an inch closer would've strangled me from no air
Hopes of ever letting them free would blind my eyes
Too bright to light up a room or be maintained
Shadowless environments exist only in books,
Our story ending covered in shadows, darkness everywhere
Expectations of our future began to go off script
Elegant furniture decomposed to burnt food,
Photographs of laughing faces started rotting
Giving my heart a pair of soldiers with guns in hand
Keeping watching of all suspenseful actions trying to break in
Holding a password, waiting for cues to let people in
Guarding my heart from every word, and every touch
Never to be infected again with that kind of poison"

Can'T Help It

"Walls up, I’m not letting anyone in
Tongue bitten, and keeping it from the whole earth
Not sure when this started to form within
Cannot tell how time will change this love’s worth

I hate that you can do anything, love.
And I’ll still find you as a shiny pearl.
Your personality beyond and above,
Your fire is making me want to twirl

When it’s midnight, I’ll be crying for you
Weeping at the thought of love not returned
It’s so hard to admit, but I love you
If I told you, I would only get burned

Feeling this way is risky to admit
But, sadly, my heart honestly can’t help it."

Warrior

"Wiping off the tears of truth with my tissue of hope.
Throwing the tears away into my trashcan of the past.
Stitching up my wounds of defeat, with thread of faith.
Fixing my makeup with brushes of joy.
Spraying perfume of victory over this warrior soul.
Going into this battle, but I have my sword of the word of God to defend, and protect me."

Delirium

"Amor deliria nervosa;
Society's most formidable disease,
Shot up in her veins with no caveat

Years spent alert and sensible,
All washed out of her consciousness,
Every cell obliterated with the disease

Three months were too late,
Symptoms too strong to maintain,
Even with a dose of the cure, love wins

They abide in the disease,
Consistent immensely sick to eat
But the disease is an asset,
Compared to those who are assigned

Those who feared amor deliria nervosa,
Were timid to its chemicals,
Not the affection given off itself
Unrequited love was their inferior fear"

This poem was written based off the book Delirium by Lauren Oliver

Monsters In My Mind

"It’s going into a room with no doors, nor windows.
Wishing you could dream of a stroll down the meadows
Not sure how you got there, but there isn’t escaping
All that you know is that your mind did all the landscaping.
Monsters rise up that never existed before from the ground
You wish you could put a sign up saying 'This isn’t a playground!'
Listening to the words these monsters tell you, you begin to sink in
Losing faith of every encouraging word you held on before within
With shaking hands, you fall to your knees
You being to pray, hoping that God sees
Words begin to crack as you scream for safety!
You ignore monsters this time when they call you crazy
Somehow, a little light seems to break though through a crack!
Then suddenly you are shown a video of a flashback
The truth is finally discovered, after all this time,
That God was next to you for the entire climb
Those monsters were never real, but in your head
God’s amazing grace made them all dead
He decided that he has better plans up ahead,
than for you to stay here mislead"
