The Gift of Repentance

Thank you Lord for drawing me near
     and opening my eyes to see;
The sin in which my heart was enslaved
     and in great need to be set free.

The gift of repentance is truly a gift;
     For by it I know Your Spirit is in me,
as He brings me to sorrow over my sin,
     and turns the eyes of my heart towards Thee.

It is You the only One and True
     that can set a prisoner free;
Little by little showing me my sin,
     and little by little changing me.

So as I live my life abiding in You,
     and You abiding in me;
May I find joy in repentance for by it I know,
     Your Spirit is living in me!

Symphony of Worship

Should we desire to imitate our Master, we must diligently study to know His heart.

As an orchestra should desire to play Beethoven with perfection, they too must
seek to know what he was thinking and feeling – the air he was breathing in and breathing out; playing the thoughts that turned his story into a beautiful symphony.

So we too, though broken fragments – individual and diversified, come together in unity, study our Master who fills us with His Spirit, that we may know Him, imitate Him; learning the symphony that He has written.

Let us breath Him in and breath Him out, that the world might desire to intently listen and learn to know Him, then desire to be a part of worshiping the One who has written His symphony on our hearts.

Escapism

A flickering spark between you and me–
     grating of steel on steel and I shall flee!
When my opinion is not valued, and my way not chosen,
     I feel my blood hot—then becoming frozen.

Flee from conflict, flee from differences;
     Flee from everything when comes hindrances!

I will live in my box, so shallow and cold,
     and avoid every burden and shake off every load;
so here I sit smugly and never grow,
     rooted as a weed—never fruit to show!

Quiet

One breath,
One beat of the heart,
In the silence, the second hand ticks.

Pausing in this moment of time –
Is it time wasted, or time to collect my thoughts?
Better yet – this is time to commune with you, Lord!
For when I am vexed, You quiet my soul.

When I look through the window and see the world,
I can see You working in everything.
No life is a waste – You use all.
You mold the common and the noble.

Help me, in this stillness, to always be aware;
You are the sustainer of every breath,
For every soul – Oh God, how deeply you care.

Blessings of His Grace

When the rain keeps falling and there seems to be no end
     hold out your hands and catch the water
           that our Almighty God does send.
His grace is always flowing
     by His strength you will get through
He will walk you on the water
     and teach you things you never knew.

Blessed be the Father, who rains down His grace,
Blessed be the Son, who showed me His face,
Blessed be the Spirit, who has drawn me to taste
     all that the Father gives us
          through the blessings of His grace.

His grace I cannot comprehend
     for all He has, He gave to me.
He rained down manna from the heavens
     and opened my eyes to see
          the water in which I drink,
               is from a well that never runs dry,
                   His supplies are overflowing
                        no man can ever deny.

So I will bless God the Father, who rains down His grace
Blessed be the Son, who showed me His face
Blessed be the Spirit, who has drawn me to taste
     all that the Father gives us
          through the blessings of His grace.

Random Thoughts

Memories of the past may fade away. Sometimes, forgetting is a blessing and what has happened, and is happening, is all a part of God's perfect plan of redemption. In life, guilt and shame can be a blessing that leads us to the Cross, and in brokenness and repentance, the Lord heals.

How do I view myself in the here and now? I may be as a spectator or a participant; watching, learning, wrestling–in and out of the arena of life as the days go by. How do I see God in the midst of life? He is always active and sovereign over all. God uses people and their circumstances in life to gain glory for Himself. Regardless of wandering in confusion, and not understanding God's way, He is always working.

I need to remember that faith is active and victory is known in battle and this life is a battle ground. God's power and deliverance succeeds in the midst of the chaos of life despite of what I think.

How do I view the sin nature of the believer? We still sin against God and sin against others. We are not perfected yet, but I know I am not what I used to be and continue to run the race. There are always opportunities to show God’s grace and mercy to others as He shows us.

There are always crossroads where there are choices when we might choose folly or wisdom. There are opportunities to redeem the wrong and make it right.

In the believer there is continuous work of progressive sanctification. We need to cling to the Lord and seek Him always that we do not constantly slip down the slope of doing what is right in our own eyes.

What alters my emotions? Once upon a time it was alcohol and drugs when I could be, “comfortably numb.” Now I need to carefully ponder my perception of life–is it clear or cloudy–influenced by others' opinions, or the Lord's; the One who enlightens me that I might see life as He sees it.

The more I come to understand Him, the less I am controlled by my natural emotions.

To my Father in heaven I pray,
Teach me Your way, O LORD; I will walk in Your truth; Unite my heart to fear Your name. I will give thanks to You, O Lord my God, with all my heart, And will glorify Your name forever. Psa 86:11,12

**“Comfortably Numb” comes from Pink Floyd song title and lyrics.

Not Done

NOT DONE (with us)

There once was a magnificent temple,
With the purest of gold the LORD'S house was lined,
Though it was only temporal,
It was perfect in detail according to God's design.

Then came an indestructible Temple,
He is Jesus –Messiah –God Divine,
See Him –our Beautiful Savior,
By faith we touch Him –in Him we shall shine.

Our bodies too are God's temple,
Chosen and built up in His time,
We are His vessels tried and tested,
By a furnace of affliction –various degrees to refine.

God's work in us is a continuing process,
Never expect our Lord to leave you alone,
As He purifies us as precious metals,
Until He takes us home.

Different

You like chocolate I like vanilla,
     not everyone is the same,
What do we do when we must choose
     should we draw lots – one will lose.

Seasons come and seasons go
     one wants the beach and one wants the snow,
All our preferences that divide
     always leave someone unsatisfied.

So with music not all like the same,
     so we grumble as we all want our way.
But do we ever ask the Lord what do we do?
     Go search the Scriptures, and see His truth!

It is the Lord that made us different –
     and would you really want all to be you?
We can be thankful for all God made
     for all is a tapestry that He has laid.

May God's Spirit work in a powerful way,
     causing great joy each and every day,
as Christ served us may we serve others
     God help us care more for our sisters and brothers!

No Short-Cuts

“Hot off the press!” “Climbing to Number One!”
Believing that to a higher knowledge we may come,
we feed on and drink in the enticing words,
but In deception we will remain obscured.

With what do we fill our minds with that should not be?
How will we know what we must flee
if we do not stay on the path of studying Truth,
or question and think everything through?

When there is no time to study the living Word,
to a short-cut we turn and then are lured
to feed on things that we do not know,
and drink from a poisonous bowl.

Drink from the Fountain of living water!
Eat of the Manna that comes from above!
Pray our hearts will yearn for Truth Divine,
and for the living Word to guard our minds!

The River

Within the raging river I was consumed;
In fear I thrashed – with eyes closed there was only darkness.

Then, I was awakened and behind the veil I could not hide –
I have crossed over to the other side.
