Sharon Riggio Poem
Coax the child and win his trust,
while his father hides out of sight.
Come here, in the alley
behind the garage,
on the corner of the block.
Did you grab him ?
Did he plead and beg and cry,
continuously asking why ?
OR, did you take the humane approach ?
Fast - quick without warning,
feeling no pain as you let him die ?
A raised gun held close and tight.
DON'T MISS !
BANG...bang bang...Bang.
Stupid Kid,
I lured you to your DEATH,
and sent a message Loud and clear,
REAL LOUD for your dad to hear.
Would daddy know the reason why ?
Would he feel fear or a surge of strength ?
Break the silence, Speak out - SHOUT !
The grievous crime was yours not mine.
Be a hero in my eyes.
Be a man.
PLEASE...be my DAD !
Daddy look at me.
You'd be proud of your little man.
I looked that person in his face.
His eyes were fixed on me,
until I blinked.
The gun went BANG !
My body hit the ground.
A foot nudged me in my side.
No response.
HE'S DEAD...
They walked away.

Sharon Riggio Poem
HONOR in Death ?
Disgraced victory.
Lost life...last breath...
still warm on soft lips.
Glassy eyes cloud.
Tears fade away.
Trembling fingers
touch a face.
Cheek bones...
those dimples,
that nose
oh, the chin.
Eyebrows...long lashes,
what a BEAUTIFUL face.
Close the lids slowly.
Tears fade away.
TV channels change.
Mothers CRY and embrace
a lifeless body.
Child of crossfire...
NINE
maybe TEN.
A gang.
Then blame.
Retribution takes place.
The broadcast continues,
another innocent LOST.
No time for FEAR...
Neighbors on watch.
Reports - information
policeman in blue.
LOOK in the distance,
an I D is made.
STOP POLICE !
Dogs on the Loose !
Suspect caught in midflight.
News Flash...ARRESTED.
Praise the Lord,
Hear our prayers...
keep our children
SAFE tonight.
Warm breath
on soft lips
the TEARS FADE AWAY.

Sharon Riggio Poem
Weapons of war, collision course,
unleashed clenched hands
attack,
flesh wounds. Don't tell,
silenced again, to feel love,
to keep you mine.
I want Alex.
Unforgettable laugh
making music, hummed softly,
unhurried, longing fevers touch,
the sky explodes
sun meets moon...eclipse.
Once upon a time the craving,
indulgence, crushed
a disaster
lost love, dismal days
revealed a tear.
Deja Vu
chances, just wait
hidden loss
without words
wonder....him....love you
stupidity to feel love again, captured.

Sharon Riggio Poem
He was nothing like expected,
sure he matched the description
of the contents of her dream but
he was different somehow
Mislead and disappointed she
wondered why it felt so important
at the time, where minutes don't
matter in the length of a day
that never ends in remembrance.
He could not compete with his rival
that urged her to let him go and
continue to wait, for it was a
case of mistaken identity.
The real man was still in hiding.

Sharon Riggio Poem
Her Name Was Grace
Sensitivity is an art.
It is not a learned skill,
nor shall practice convince anyone it exists.
An instinct of genetic making
but not necessarily a family trait.
A natural occurrence.
A human touch that leaves no print
on a butterflys wings
allowing it to enjoy its flight.
It is the worm dug up
from the black dirt.
Gently it coils in the palm of a hand
returned to the earth
where it may wiggle away.
It is the memory triggered
peering through fingers at yellow sunlight.
Its heat warms a hand
and casts shadows on the ground.
Trembling yet softly touching a face.
Every feature every flaw
draws a picture an image appears.
A tear is then felt
wiped away by a thumb.
A kiss on the forehead,
a gentle embrace.
The words I am sorry
whispered like a secret
so close to ones ear.
Her name was Grace

Sharon Riggio Poem
Compliance was not an option,
she shed her virtue.
Yielding to his words,
naked, alone and captured.
She played his toy,
unrecognizable to herself.
The blade cut deep,
her tears were meant to bleed.
The seduction was complete,
the candles wick blown out.

Sharon Riggio Poem
Lift Your Voice
(softly) Let it start out
as a whisper
Calling gently
(louder) from your heart
Growing stronger
as you knock
(louder) Upon his door
refrain Lift your voice
it is easy
Lift your voice
it isn't hard
Just Lift Your Voice!
Sing your praises
Sing your sorrows
He will hear you
when you call
(softly) Listen closely (pause)
the door opens (pause)
(sharp) Look! See the Lord!
refrain Lift your voice
it is easy
Lift your voice
it isn't hard
Just Life Your Voice!
Patiently he waits
watching from above
listening for hearts
murmuring his name
Wanting us to come
to the faithful one
Call His Name...Jesus..Jesus (sing like overlapping fireworks)
refrain Lift your voice
it is easy
Life your voice
it isn't hard
Just Lift Your Voice!
Feel his strength
in your sorrow
Feel his gladness
in your joy
Feel his presence
When you call
Upon the Lord
refrain Lift your voice
it is easy
Lift your voice
it isn't hard
Just Lift Your Voice!

Sharon Riggio Poem
Flower Bed
Once bold,
bright
yellow
now, fuzzy white.
Planted by chance of wind,
unlike the impatiens
flourishing in the shade.
Blow far away.
Swelter in the sun,
in fear of being spotted
lodged between rocks,
or in a crack of a driveway.
Perhaps, a child may mistake you
for a flower,
in his ignorance
of youth.
While shedding petals,
always to be a rose.
Surely, a thorn to a dandelion,
removed from the garden of beauty.

Sharon Riggio Poem
He is a thought,
that does not speak,
but can be heard.
An image not real,
yet is seen.
The burn of temptation,
without a touch.
A breath silenced,
by a kiss.
A menace, a muse,
a joy, a disaster.
He is the torn pages,
from a diary of regret,
littering the floor beside the bed.
