Fall

At the pumpkin patch
We pick apples, drink cider
Life is simple there

Negative Self Talk

Failure is a funny old thing
All of your worst fears take to wing
Lies you have told yourself more than once
Leak right into your brain, like a sponge
Intelligent though you may be
Never a light in the tunnel you'll see
Giving up or just giving in
Always seems easier when
People you meet won't be kind
Always bringing the worst to your mind
Recalling the beast you have been
Telling and retelling you of your every sin.

Boys

Running
Leaping
Spinning
Crashing
Running, leaping, wild,
Like a blur, my spinning, crashing, child.

Winter

Winter snows falling
White the world, crisp and cleanly
Drifting slowly along

To the Victims of Violence

People sharing life together
Every country, every land
All of us are in this together
Created for goodness and love
Every life is precious

Only fear can cause this kind of evil
Nothing good comes from suffering on this scale

Every person: man, woman, and child
All through the wide world should be able to
Remember a time without violence or pain
Truly knowing what it means to be safe
Heaven knows it is long overdue.

Where Do We Go From Here

Where do we go from here, my friends?
People down on themselves, in pain
Hurting others all around them, for spite
Unaware of the damage they do.

People down on themselves, in pain
Cussing, cursing, fighting, blaming, shaming
Unaware of the damage they do
Bruising, breaking, sabotaging, destroying

Cussing, cursing, fighting, blaming, shaming
Hurting others all around them, for spite
Bruising, breaking, sabotaging, destroying
Where do we go from here, my friends?

My Philosophy

Possibility given a voice
Opportunity and multiple choice
Everyone is equal and free
To put pen to page...just try and see.
Real and true to this art
You must be, from the start

Flowery verse or staccato prose
Oration, lyric, iambic, morose
Real emotion, your words must expose

As you write, as you share
Life, love, loss, or despair
Leave your soul on the page...if you dare.

Goals and Expectations

May not have the nicest stuff
You could buy in any store
Won't be winning any prize for beauty
Or complete in the Olympic Games
Not always able to take the right path
Debts financial and moral piling high
Every day I wish to count a blessing
Real happiness is not found in these things
First take care of those you love
Understand the rest will come
Live the best with what you have
Leave perfection at the door
Invest time and energy in those around you
Fulfill your obligations
Enjoy the time you have.
