Release

How long must you swallow now
to satisfy the beast
and will I ever bleed enough
for you to withdraw your teeth?

Answer me

I’m fading in and out of consciousness
My lips are turning blue
but I can feel your skin begin to crawl
Tell me, what’s eating you?

Answer me
What is eating you?

Tell me
Tell me

Leftovers

Soberly, I raise my head
to beg you for
one thin slice of bread
since on the table
a dirty dish holds the residue
of someone else’s wish

And there’s nothing left
nothing left for me
No there’s nothing left
nothing left for me

Hours later, you lie there still
watching more headlights
glide above the window sill
'cause though your mind
fights back desperately
each new passing car
stirs the same old memory

So there’s nothing left
nothing left for me
No there’s nothing left
nothing left for me

Enlargement Pill

I took a pill in the morning
for a discrete rendezvous
Then another that evening
just before my date fell through

You know I must have been dreaming
cause she showed up out of the blue
At least I thought she was poking fun
when she said how something felt new

Oh it's sad but true

Now all the fellas are jealous
since I'm packing heat for two
And all their ladies they love me
cause they've seen the tricks I can do

I just assumed she was satisfied
as the bond between us grew
Yet her inbox is still not full
and I'm stuffing it into my shoe

It's sad but true
Oh if you only knew

2050

Feeding to the masses
their own flesh and bones
while sipping blood from glasses
collected by drones

Once prime resources decrease
automation makes survival
harder to justify poverty

Honest work for laymen
has long been obsolete
but secret combinations
still pay enough to eat

With so many mouths to feed
all the wealthy share is greed

Once prime resources decrease
automation makes survival
harder to justify poverty

Dark Money

Oh say can you see
how offshore companies
sway votes for loyalty
through non-profit charities?

Who’s drawing the line?
There’s more for the take this time
Trace every sign
Shine some light on dark money

Now it’s harder to be certain
who’s pulling at purse strings
behind private curtains
A dog is smarter than its tail
but when the tail is cunning
the tail will wag the dog

Dumb down issues for me
Promise more transparency
Spin lies from fantasy
as you rewrite history

Who’s drawing the line?
There’s more for the take this time
Trace every sign
Shine some light on dark money

Now it’s harder to be certain
who’s pulling at purse strings
behind private curtains
A dog is smarter than its tail
but when the tail is cunning
the tail will wag the dog

The Art of War

Rumor has it we were never even friends
Was it something that I said?
The call to arms begins
once negotiations end
If you surrender, must I turn the other cheek
to seek forgiveness on my own?
Begging, pleading
I tread the press alone
shouldering this burden stone
Still trying to forget
each moment you regret
Why can’t we just get along?
Don’t you tell me where I belong
Rumor has it we were never even friends
Was it something that I said?
Begging, pleading, trying to forget

Stranger Than Fiction

What is consciousness?
Can you see my point of view?
Is theory of mind a delusion?
How can you be sure that an object’s upside down
when we both know particles keep moving around?

Come on now, do I have to sympathize?
Go ahead, roll your eyes

Why must truth be stranger than fiction?
Does our pride make us hold on to lies?
If there's still one thing I know for certain
absolutes only polarize

Come on now, do I have to sympathize?
Go ahead roll your eyes

Please don’t talk to me of Einstein's relativity
or Schrödinger's cat which really has only one possibility

Why must truth be stranger than fiction?
Does our pride make us hold on to lies?
If there's still one thing I know for certain
absolutes only polarize

Come on now, do I have to sympathize?

When You Love Someone

Choking back the awkward laughter
of another lonesome chapter,
you would sacrifice everything
to gladly stand within her shadow
even if you have to follow
where silence in the dark is deafening.

When you love someone
enough to keep holding on,
though you have to set them free
while you try to hide
how you are dying inside.
Hoping they will finally see,
you're never done
when you love someone

Sleepless nights of endless sorrow
will haunt the dreams of your tomorrow
with all the memories she left behind,
but now your focus is askew
because she stole a part of you
and so you wander searching for a sign.

When you love someone
enough to keep holding on,
though you have to set them free
while you try to hide
how you are dying inside.
Hoping they will finally see
that you are the one
who's still pressing on
'cause you're never done
when you love someone.

I know that I should try to find somebody else
but I don't want to.
Even if another tries to take her place,
they won't do,
when you love someone.

Turn Around

You watch more sleepy towns slip by
beneath another distant sunrise
I brush these waking dreams aside
in my pursuit to live the good life

We're riding rails headed towards downtown
while I steal a glance
before you have a chance to turn around
Turn around

Each window plays the same routine
I wonder if you ever notice me
My own reflection's hard to see
when shadows drift past fading scenery

We're riding rails headed towards downtown
while I steal a glance
before you have a chance to turn around

Your destination could be mine
If I should stay, give me a sign
Turn around

We're riding rails headed towards downtown
while I steal a glance
before you have a chance to turn around
Turn around

Walking Dead

Pale moonlight overhead
floods a bone dry riverbed
Lost and wounded, full of dread
while my thirst grows crimson red
cause this nightmare has only fed
the walking dead

I still hear those words you said
never give up, don't lose your head
but now it's harder to pretend
grace will save us in the end
cause this nightmare has only fed
the walking dead

No, this nightmare has only fed
the walking dead
