I Think I Should Clean My Room

I think I should clean my room...
I'm not sure where to put my past
The heap heaves from the shelf
And falls with a crash

A broken pencil breaks my skin
A dark red raindrop falls to meet
It's spiritual kin on the floor

The shadows flicker in the corners
I turn round my shoulder in fear
Even with the lights on

I've lifted the old layers and
The bold ancients scurry free
At first off guard but see me now

They understand who I was,
My layers of mess peeled like a snake
They know I've changed
Under the safe they keep me the same

I meditate to the moon
I leave the mess in the gloom
I watch them eat my skin
I clean from within the mess
My room is falling away
I rise and it's new

Love Carvings

I looked at the heart-encased initials on the table,
a couple's lifelong promise turned employee's weeklong cleanup project,
I wonder if it's gone yet,
Love is set in minds not etched in someone's regret
