My Goodbye

My Goodbye
I have been up for hours, searching for words
And I finally see, that this is goodbye
The reality has broken me, as I come to my senses
I have to let go and surrender but it’s not without consequences

I did not expect this, so quickly to happen
Not even in my dreams would I have fallen
To a chance, that my heart would be broken
Nor as to someone I claimed as a friend

It must have been your sweetness that melted my heart
Or your smile, that gave it a start
Whatever the reason for feeling this way
It only grew stronger with each passing day

I am trying to wish you the best in your quest
I hope it is returned to you, the heart and the soul of her very chest
I also hope that you can forgive me, this emotional mess
As I do you, for leaving this hole in my chest

It is going to take me a while to put this behind me
To not live in a dream of what I thought could be
It is a process that most go through
And it really sucks when you find it is also you

So without delay and if just to cease this misery, which I may no longer cry
In that I am sending you this last text to say my goodbye
I know now what must be done, it is just what you asked me to do
But know that for this short little while, I came to have loved you

It was hope that you’d have opened your heart to something different, with a potential of being surreal
So it is with no further mention of things unsaid, that I give you this poem and say my goodbye
