Pizza

Pizza!
by René Annandale

Pizza pizza pat
Pizza pizza flat
Thick crust, thin crust
or raised crust.
Chop it, slice it, grate it,
pack it, fill it.
Tomato, mushroom, salami,
peppers, ham and anchovy.
Top it all with cheese.
Serve me warm, if you please.

The Two Feet

THE TWO FEET by René Annandale
There was a man with two big feet
but never the two would meet.
For the left foot went definitely left
and the right foot went positively right
They would not even face each other at night.
Yet he would never trade them for any other.
One day the left foot said to the right
Do you think we might
be able to walk in the same direction?
The right foot said: Now what makes you ask such a silly question?
Well, said the Left. It is worth a try.
So the Right conceded, although he’d never know why.
For one day they traveled in harmony
but oh, it ended in a catastrophe.
You see, the man - the owner of the feet -
had to cross a busy street.
He was going to the bakery
but ended up in the cemetery.
The two feet were sorry for their loss
He was, after all, a kindly boss.
Yet they were happy to not have been separated,
for that would have left them exasperated.
Separation they would be unable to bear
They will for ever be an unpaired pair.

Earth Day

EARTH DAY
by René Annandale

On 22 April each year
we celebrate Mother Nature’s Earth Day
It is an awareness day
to shake us out of our dream world
that Earth will forever be here
Yet we orchestrate its demise
in so many ways
every single day.
On Earth Day we stop and think
for a while
and hopefully repent
of our foolish ways
Look at renewable energy
Investigate ways to curb waste
Recycle, reduce, reuse, upcycle
Mother Nature supports us
We have no right to abuse her
We should support her
in our daily journey around
the sun
It should be a combined effort

Use your mind
Get your hands dirty
If you must
Let us stand together
Let us fight
for the right to live
on this planet
we call home -
Earth.
