Overacheiver

I did better than all the rest
but that was normal for me
to lose a bit of sleep
just so I could do good
but you just don’t understand
why I do this all the time
I have to and although it seems odd
it’s true for just me and not you
the only way I get seen
is to overdo everything
I’m smart but not that smart
pretty but not gorgeous
I fit in but only just that
maybe if I had many talents
my family would see
but here I am plain Jane
with nothing special to my name
all my talents are not unique
just as good as other people’s
and always someone can do it better
so here I am overachiever
just so they may see me
even if it is just this once
maybe so I can gain a moment
from that name plain Jane
with no other talents to her name

Nobody's Favorite

I was the outcast in the corner
separated from my peers
purely by their fears
always compared to another
I never measured up
smart, funny, popular they were
I was none of the above

A Brand New and Better Me

I hesitated once again
as I tried to define
where I fit within mankind
you've already decided
who I am and where I go
I just really don't agree
with how you define me
but who am I to try and conceive
a brand new and better me

Pastel Dreams

Why are you so focused
on my little tiny failures
not on my overall grand success
every time I stumble
you seem to drag me down
with all your words of aspersion
I just slide further down
you criticize and vilify
as I attempt to overcome
every minuscule failure

As I see, every mark
adds color to the picture
but to you the world
is black and white
a charcoal picture
ally my attempts to add pastel
you have just deemed fails
you pick and I compare
I am trapped in a nightmare
as I neglect to overachieve extraordinary

Invisible Darts

Sticks and stones
Break my bones
But words could never hurt me
I repeated the rhyme again and again
Aghast to no end
You broke me again
The pain is real
The words cut deep
The tears stained my cheek
Teachers try but you're that pesky fly
That never gets spotted
You know my pain
You find your gain
Take it away
I say
You just begin again
To shoot me with invisible darts
no more I say you just killed my heart

Visible Invisible Cape

I was supposed to be transparent
but you didn’t really see through that mask I wore
the one that hid who I was but you still believed
that I was transparent and happy
only that was the face I put on everyday
I guess that if you saw me really smile
you would be astounded in the beauty of the truth
all you've ever seen was a beautiful lie

In all matters of reality I’m not who you think
I have layers that would make you cringe
because of the pain you never saw
or the tears that no one ever fought
only I know the whole story so dark and deep
of the pain found within little ol’ me
why did everyone accept this mask
no one truly asked who is the real me

The only me you ever saw was the one who
fit a preconceived notion of Sarah Lee
I guess I could take off some layers
make it so easy but then you still wouldn't see
because to see my core you must be God
or somehow convince me that you are worthy
of the entirety of all of me

Don'T Mess With the Vixens

On the day you announced we would closed
no one truly understood
now here we stand tried and true
together we will all push through
we'll teach you to mess with us
the Vixen girls of Sweet Briar U.S.

#savesweetbriar
we will reign against financial rust
we will stand tall for the
strong girl in all of us
so save our school
help us out

we found or voice we found our school
we'll teach you how to mess with socialites
and our iron clad wills
you taught us to think to dream
now we're strong a Vixen to one and all
save our school, help Amherst out
Sweet Briar College shall live I have not doubt
we'll teach you to mess with Vixens
Please just help us win
pledge some money
let the school win
so little girls can come when I'm old
Please this is my poetry plead

The Passage of Time

The scars on her wrist
marked the passage of time
in her forgone life
where depression captured
and wouldn't let go
so nowadays
you examine the place
where she transferred her pain
only still hurting in the same place
no more tears
no more marks
the depression strangled
the pain gone away
she's turned a new page
onto another day

Try and Find

I urge you to try and find
the scars that appear on a daily basis
the ones that hurt but can't be seen
the sticks and stones that don't hit me
allowed for words to pierce deep within
that cause you to underestimate
all the pain I'm in
a happy face but not a happy place
understand where they laid their hands
on the inside of my heart
where no one can restore
the carefree, pain free girl I was to start

Defined

My reputation
and its precedence
defined me to you
although surrounded by so little truth
mine at least is good
but what about
the girl you shunned
for supposedly getting the goods
it never happened but
to you it did
now you see
only the bad for her
and the good for me
there is no in between
you prejudices hurt
I have to live up to the name you gave me
she is hurt by the lies that now have stood
