A Fond Memory

A dream on my mind.
A far distant memory.
A smile on my lips.

Unspoken

I wake encased in arms so strong
a heart beating beneath my cheek.
I am tempted to sneak a peek,
though feeling right where I belong.
From the night, clothes strewn all along
the room and on every antique.
No time for words, no need to speak
as we made love to one last
 song.

He stirs, and greets me with a smile.
Unspoken words from yesterday
floating in the crisp morning air.
They'll stay unspoken for a while,
as we both chase the chill away.
Our bodies and our hearts we bare.

What Lies Behind the Mountain

What lies behind the mountain?
 A far and distant land?
 Are there valleys and flowers,
 Or hot and burning sands?

What lies behind the mountain?
 A place I’ve never known?
 Is it desolate, and barren,
Or do you reap where you’ve sown?

What lies behind the mountain?
 Somewhere to rest my head?
Do the weary cease their labor,
Or do they toil in fear and dread?

What lies behind the mountain?
 The sun’s warming glow?
Should I stop or keep on going?
Many things I do not know.

But I know what is behind me,
And where those paths have led.
Of all the odds around me
 Greater things must lie ahead.

Be Mine

A glance from afar
Certain longing in his eyes
A word on his lips

An unspoken sound
A deep feeling when we kiss
Wrapped in each other

His lips whispering
Of a certain desire
Do you wish it too?

The Prize

Oh how I love to hear you speak of heaven
How I love to hear you say
How it'll be when we're called up yonder
Into eternal day

Oh how I love to hear the songs of Zion
How I love to hear you sing
Of that city coming down from heaven
Of wedding bells soon to ring

Oh to hear the wonders that He'll do
And the mercy that He gives
But how meaningless it will be
If what you know you do not live

For the path is straight and narrow
The way is held up high
To reach that holy city
To Christ you must draw nigh

The is a temple to be built
A work that must be done
We cannot sit idle
While there is a race for us to run

And when we reach that mark
It's out Father's face we'll see
For it's the prize of the high calling
To reign with Him through eternity

Handwritten Letter

Handwrite me a letter.
All the pages fill
With your elegant script
By ink and quill.

Take pleasure in the quiet.
Loosen your tie, but do not forget
Cross every tittle
Dot every "i".

Relax by the fire,
And take your time.
Tickle my ear
With your sweet rhyme.

Let the words flow
From a deeper place.
All that's hidden there,
Leave not a trace.

Mind not the cold
Nor the frosted window rime,
But write to me of flowers,
And the warmth of summertime.

Indulge me a little longer.
I've awaited your reply
With bated breath,
And a greatly heaved sigh.

Your letter's here at last.
All the pages are filled
With your love handwritten,
And with wax sealed.

Dance With Me

Walk with me into the night.
Take my hand and hold it tight.
We’ll enter a world that’s all our own;
So let us dance in the moonlight

Dance with me under the stars,
Everything else will seem so far.
It’ll be as if time has stopped,
And I’ll keep you safe within my heart.

All my love, to you, I’ll tell.
How for you, my dear, I fell.
And we’ll be together always
As we dance under a moonlit spell.

A Psalm

The breath of God sweeps across the deep
Encircling all that I am
My soul yields like a flower to the sun
Oh God, breath in me the breath of life
Let your river flow through this earth
That I may bear fruit of righteousness
And in your presence, forever dwell

For thou art the Lord, the only God
Who rules beside thee?
Your word consumes me like a blazing fire
Can anything stand before thee?
Surely, your truth hath set me free
Yet, bind me dear Lord
Make me a prisoner of thy love
And keep me all my days

To Write Or Not To Write

To write, or not to write?
'Tis not a question at all.
Write about anything big, or small.

To write, or not to write?
'Tis such a foolish thing to ask,
Write about the future, the present, or the past.

To write, or not to write?
'Tis a ridiculous thought.
Write about peace, and many wars fought.

To write, or not to write?
I shall indulge it no more.
For I will write about life, love, and much much more.

Queen of the Grove

I’m Off to new lands
Away from my dearest home
What odds shall I face?

Strangers all around
Nowhere for me to fit in
Kind of lonely place

Oh but I have you
Tender hands wipe tears away
Strong arms to embrace

You’ve swept me away
Beyond all the city lights
Fingers interlaced

To the countryside
Hidden in the Grove: A Castle
For me to be Queen
