Cast Away

Cast Away
Waiting for you makes me feel
Like a cast away in Malden
So much golden sand
To slide my bare feet in

My feet feel each hot grain
Fills between each toe
Sun bakes the air around me
As I feel the warm wind blow

My eyes see an endless sight
Of such blue I can't take in
The waves, the crests, the tides
Loneliness, running thin

Waiting for you makes me feel
Should I hope you’d ever come?
I spend the day collecting seashells
Inevitably missing some

I’ll stare out into blue’s madness
Until the heat burns out my eyes
And never stop looking for you
Where the ocean meets the sky

Planes of rescue flew over me
While waves have eaten this coastline

I'm going mad in my sadness

Somehow wishing you would be mine

Alone

Attitude makes the difference
Lasting for the time you want
Orbiting your being as you need
Not lonely, not to haunt
Existence

Grandfather

Grave is where you lie
Remembering who you are
Attributes you instilled in me, guided fleets
North Star

Dedicated soldier
Fought in World War II
Agonizing pain from cancer
Tried to hold on to you

Home back to God you went
Eternally peaceful as can be
Respectfully loving all you were for me

Bokeh Lights

Bokeh lights on my Christmas tree
Blurred from crying
Can you not see?

How I thought I saw you
The way you were moving away
Brown liquour crushing the new

Way I feel about
When our song comes on
Sensing your doubt

I know you want to part ways
Turn in your key
Hello to the rest of your days

I'll drink my caramel delight
You'll say goodbye to me
Whiskey I'll love you tonight

No Christmas Cards This Year

This year will be different
I'm going to start something new
I'm not buying you presents
Wait and see what I'll do

Those gifts from the past
Are now sitting in trash
The cards I picked out
Held more than just cash

Certificates and gift cards
Meant nothing to you
Your face was expressionless
What could I do?

This season I'll show up
Lovely poetry from me
Watch how your face cringes
Is this how you'll be?

I dare you to read it
And think that I care
To give you a gift like this
Would this be fair?

These Keys

Placing my warm fingertips
I stroke with energy
Feverishly hungry to consume
The black and white colored keys

I eat them with satisfaction
Unable to get enough in me
I think of words multisyllabic
Swallow them easily

Hearing the typing
I cannot express
Melodically bouncing off my ears
Heart beating in my chest

Sitting Indian style pecking
Pecking away at these keys
Is something that's most beautiful
As I write what I please

The Sailor and the Sea

You two are the sailor and the sea
Bringing about all good things to be

Content and calm like when the sea is blue
With a clear sky to show what love can do

Sailors don't fight the waves or tide
They embody curves of the sea, along for the ride

While the sailor can steer her ship onto land
But she chooses to keep her ship away from sand

Though the wind can pick up and the skies go dark
The sailor and her sea can not end their embark

As you are the sailor and the sea
Circling the world endlessly

This Holiday Season

Take time to remember
Humble yourself, take a stand
Inspire someone, reach out
Share from your own hand

Hunger and misery
Oblivious are we
Living like king and queens
In this world we do not see
Daily interactions that we could
Allow ourselves to help out
You can make a difference, there is no doubt

Single and together
Embrace all that you hold dear
Accept that life is not perfect
Season is almost here
Outlove your worst fear
Night is dark but Christmas is near

Facebook

Forget that it's all sugarcoated
Accept that you can't quit
Censored, conformed and covered up
Egotistically you won't admit

Because you'll never see how you're
Obsessively checking in
Ordinary people telling lies to you
Knowing you never will win
