Raven Drake Poem
Farcical, extravagant
My birthmark is a scar
A speckled blotch ...
A spot of pox
An icon from afar
I'm an upstart, I'm an eyesore
Ranting with a flair
In a tempest, I'm a rabid bird
Setting fire to the air
As dauntless as a hellhag
Unmoved by love or care
I can hold up in a cyclone
Feasting on your fear
I'm your last hope
As a laughingstock
I'm your courage in a dare
As audacious as a terrorist
With death-defying hair
When it's time to play the tragic fool
I'm as flagrant as a glare
Seething with a vengeance
In a tantrum of despair

Raven Drake Poem
I recall the vile pun
The woeful scream, the solemn bribe
The nagging prayer, the foreign tongue
The grave and liquid cry
She gathered beasts, she beckoned blight
A splendid bane between her stammers
And in the panic, an endless night
Enticing in its glamour
She had a flair for cryptic verse
The fabled hag's fatal charm
For want of blessings she swore a curse
A well-rehearsed spell of harm
She took an oath, destroyed a star
Unleashed a secret from below
And in an instant from afar
Brought forth a plague from long ago

Raven Drake Poem
I am the hope inside
That feeds on tide and wind
As ocean shores abide
A storm's subsiding din
I am the joy that died
Before the world took wing
Where cold and dark things hide
Beneath a cheerful grin
I am the vacant eye
The black and gaping stare
The vain and cunning lie
That only truth can bear
Where raging hearts surrender
I drop anchor there
As dying embers stir
And faith invokes despair

Raven Drake Poem
I appear with the unbegotten
In the hollows of the seen
A shadow of the soon forgotten
I enter through the dream
Inhabiting the void
In the source of germ and seed
I bring forth the undestroyed
As time and space recede
In nightmares where the banished dwell
In spells inciting ire
I swallow up a newborn hell
Bound by wind and fire
Snuffing out a sun or two
As a galaxy expires
I take root in empty truths
With flesh as my attire
As ill-starred seers stutter
And oracles retire
I awake the muted echoes
In the ruins of desire

Raven Drake Poem
She flickers in the borderland
In the mirror and the marsh
Sparkling like the morning dew
On a grateful corpse
In the bog her murmuring
The echo of a cry
Travels on the plaintive wind
Like a phantom sigh
The merest of a semblance
Shadowed by the moon
In the murk appears to flirt
Behind the sinking dunes
Like an orphan of the sea
Or a widow of the sands
She shrivels in the noon day sun
Glimmering in strands

Raven Drake Poem
The word is born of wind and water
Of winters white and long
The shape and form of ode and image
The air of breath and song
Bending like a willow branch
Casting wicked spells
Twisting like a wounded tree
Fed by holy wells
Giving birth to magic verse
Bound by hill and vale
Burning like a fated curse
Reversed by force of gale
The word is born of craft and guile
Of trickery and vice
Of witchery and cunning wiles
Of sage and wise advice
Of rolling waves and winding vines
Of guarded healing springs
Of wild woods and blood red wine
And the roar of beating wings

Raven Drake Poem
Is this the ghost within
Poking through my skin
Crashing through a mask or two
Rapping as I cringe
Is this the part that dreams
Is this the part that sings
Or the sharp tooth on a devil's wing
Searching for a scream
Is this the task at hand
The host that makes demands
Or some vagrant in a mirror world
Too worn out to stand
I thought I was alone
With this wind that bites my bones
My higher self, a drunken elf
Too spaced out to phone
Is this my shadow on the run
Some hope without a home
Is this the love I dared to shun
Or the god that I disowned

Raven Drake Poem
We are the unbegotten
We are the unassigned
Redeemed from oblivion
Kept out of mind
We are the great rotation
Unfolding the sublime
An echo of obliteration
Returning with the tides
Unmarked by boundaries
Before the birth of lines
Inhabiting voided forms
Unrevealed by signs
Dissolving like a vision
Or a phantom of the blind
We are the soon forgotten
In the reckonings of time

Raven Drake Poem
I don't mind if you climb inside
This stump I left behind
This lump of rot whose body parts
Broke free of dotted lines
Pluck a tooth, score a limb
Scrawl a note or two
In this lair of desert air
There's room for both of you
Odds and ends amidst the mud
Insinuate a face
A thin disguise free of love
Cheeks the wind erased
An alibi for skin and hair
Where only dust resides
Crumbled like an arid lie
Free of human fear
So grab some stringy gristle
A brittle part will do
Or a compact mass of bone and grass
With the mellow scent of dew
I don't mind if you grin or pout
If you're whole or if you're broken
Despite my rugged gutter mouth
My door is always open

Raven Drake Poem
She was just a phantom gleam
In the shadow of the light
As old as the oldest dream
On a cold and tranquil night
As fluid as mythic love
As palpable as fright
Trembling in awe
In the grasp of delight
As sad as a memoir
On an empty page
As lonely as a widow
Dancing in the rain
She returned like a song
In the memory of the dead
Repeating like a nagging voice
Inside a madman's head
And as moist as the dullest thought
In a melting brain
She dribbled like a lunatic
Muttering in pain
