Robert Nilsen Poem
Everyday Heroes
Let’s talk about everyday Heroes
Ordinary people like you and I
People who do not always win
But are always willing to try.
People who go on everyday
Making a positive contribution to all
Doing their jobs as best they can
Standing proud, straight and tall
Firemen are unsung heroes
Braving the wicked smoke and flame
To save your lives and property
Their bravery always the same.
The policemen protect our vital laws
And puts criminals in jails
To save us all from constant danger
Their courage seldom fails.
Teachers educate our children all
To improve our future world
To read and write, subtract and add
The history of our nation we are always told.
The preachers of our local churches,
Masques, Synagogues ad Temples
Are always ready to listen and help
And teach us by example.
The doctors, nurses and volunteers
Keep our hospitals working hard
Saving lives and giving aide
Help is never very far.
Construction workers, engineers, scientists et al
Consultants, coaches, pilots and their crews
Soldiers, sailors and drivers in their trucks
All contribute to our nation by freely expressing their views.
Those who volunteer their time
To make this world a better place
Helping those in times of need
Regardless of creed or race.
They are our unsung heroes
Who always help us to find our way
Who deserve some recognition
Each and everyday
So raise your voices so you are heard
And praise your friends old and new
And thank your Lord high above
For unsung heroes like you!

Robert Nilsen Poem
I often think about death these days
And how it will come for me
Will I be faced with a painful death
Or will I die while in my sleep.
Will I fall down while no ones there
And lay in writhing pain
Or will I suffer a massive stroke
Leaving nothing but a shattered man.
How will I be eulogized
How will they speak of me
Have I been worthy of good words
Will people pray for me.
I'd like to be remembered
As one who cared for all
As one who never shied away
When those in stress would call
I hope my children won't suffer my death
Or anguish for too long
I hope they will not be made to cry
But stand up brave and strong.
I hope I won't die alone
With no one by my side
But rather that I am surrounded
By those who shared my life.
My life has been a wonderful time
I am so happy to have shared
The truly magnificent world we live in
With those who really care.
I loved listening to all around me
And to be allowed to see.
And smell and taste all of God's gifts
I thank all blessings given to me.
I love my family deeply
And will miss them most of all
But soon I think God will call my name
And I will head the call.

Robert Nilsen Poem
Football season is here again.
The warriors are ready to meet
On a field of battle green and white
Vowing never to face defeat..
Summer training has come and gone
The players fitness is at the very top.
The competition is also ready to play
They swear no other can make them stop.
The cameras are ready to televise the games
And bring them into your home.
The playing fields are neatly groomed
From Giants Stadium to the Superdome.
The creme de la creme play in the NFL
Where only the best players in the world are found.
Teams meet head to head six months during winter
With sudden death playoffs til a winner is crowned.
The best of the best are enshrined in the Hall.
Tittle, Butkus, Gifford and Allworth,
Olsen, Staubach, Huff , Lambert and Swann,
Casper, Lilly and of course there is Stallworth.
Landry, Madden, Starr, Taylor and Tarkenton.
Dawson, the Rooneys and the Mara brothers,
Macky and Mathews, Newsome and Payton
Shula, Riggins and so many others. .
These players were the best of the best.
Men we all could praise and admire
Men who should be examples to follow
Men who keep the bar moving higher.
There are 241 players enshrined
And many others to follow.
But for now we are watching
The crowded path that leads us all to “The Show”

Robert Nilsen Poem
Heroes
Hail to the victims of September 11th
For they are the true heroes of the day
Hail to the Fire and Police personnel
For they redefined the word “Bravery.”
Hail to the rescue squads
For they saved lives and comforted many
Hail to those who lost loved ones
For they deserve to be in our daily prayers.
Hail to our Armed Forces
For they protect us and keep us free
Hail to our flag and nation
For they are the source of our strength and unity
Hail to all those who stand and fight terrorism
For they will be our future champions.
End

Robert Nilsen Poem
Love can be whatever you want it to be.
It can be like a rose with its delicate fragrance or
It can be like a thorn from a rose’s stem.
It can be as sweet as honey from the hive or
It can be like a sting from a bee.
It can be like the warmth from a fire or
It can be as cold as a shoulder.
It can be like the smell of fresh baked cookies or
It can be like cookies crumbling in your hand
Love can be like rising after a good nights sleep or
It’s like being kept awake from your lover’s constant snoring
It can be like a romantic candlelight dinner or
It can be a quick run to McDonalds
It can be a long lasting sensual kiss or
It can be a peck on the cheek.
It can be like gently caressing your lovers face or
It can be a rough uncaring squeeze instead
It can be like a gift from Cupids bow or
It can break your heart if you let it.
Love can be whatever you want it to be or
It can be nothing at all.
You Choose …

Robert Nilsen Poem
Have you ever felt abandoned
Left to fight your foes alone.
Is there no one there to talk to
Are you faced with the unknown.
Have you ever felt so lonely
With no one to lend a hand.
Are you living all by yourself.
Contrary to what you planned.
Have all of your friends abandoned you
Though they said they never would
You say you can no longer count on them
To help you as they should.
Have you tried to live your life
Caring for those dear to you.
Only to be thrown away
Like an old and worn out shoe.
Have you ever felt discarded
With only blind hope to be your guide
Losing all that you once had
No ones left on your side.
But don’t despair and don’t surrender.
Keep your life’s spirit warm, not cold
There is a rainbow out there.
With a pot full of gold.
Or perhaps you’ll meet a leprechaun
Hiding in the clover.
He will grant you a special wish
And help you to recover.
Perhaps there is a lion
With a thorn stuck in his paw.
You remove it safely
And you will have a friend evermore.
So many things are possible
To make your life worth living.
There are new friends who will be found
And family forgiving.
So please rejoin the human race
There is so much happiness for all
Reach out for the silver ring of life
And do not let it fall.

Robert Nilsen Poem
CHRISTMAS
It’s Christmas season once again
Our hearts will start to glow
It’s getting a bit colder outside
We expect an early snow.
The season starts with ghosts and goblins
Knocking on your door.
They beckon for a treat or two
Maybe something more.
Next comes our day of thanks
For all that we possess
We eat and drink til there’s no more room
With bounty that we have blessed.
Santa can’t be far behind
With his sleigh full of toys
He holds his ever longer lists
Of the good girls and boys.
But I sense that something’s missing
An d we’ve wandered off our way.
The food, the toys and the witches brew
Have led us all astray.
It’s your God you should celebrate
And beg him to bless your cheer.
And do this every day you wake
Not just at the end of year
.
Share your joy with everyone
No matter what their creed
And let’s keep ‘Christ’ in Christmas
And give to ‘ALL’ in need.
So I will wish you a Merry Christmas
And a very ‘Happy New Year’
Please give your love to everyone
Throughout the coming year.

Robert Nilsen Poem
I hope I go to Heaven
When my times at hand
I’ll meet again with all my friends
Who died before we planned.
And if I go to Heaven
I’ll be waiting for you there
To thank you for all the help you gave,
For all of the loving care
You nurtured me when I was ill
And tended to my colds.
You always stood right by my side
As I was getting old.
I love you now and I always will
Until the day I die
My spirit will always remain with you
Until your time is nigh.
And when I see you at God’s Gate
I’ll be right there to greet you
And we’ll walk on to eternity
The way the Lord planned us to.

Robert Nilsen Poem
I have a very strong feeling
That something good will happen today
I’m always on the lookout
For good news to start my day.
The clouds are picturesque
The sky is clear and blue
There is no ozone in the air
I feel refreshed and new.
The flowers are full in bloom
And butterflies fill the air
The birds are busy chirping
Flying without a care.
A hummingbird is gathering nectar
To feed her hungry brood
The bees are collecting pollen
To make the honey so good.
I lay down in the tall, soft grass
And smell the fresh, clean air
To have a day so wonderful
Is truly something rare.
It’s then I start to contemplate
And think deep thoughts with ease
And listen to the wind
Whooshing through the trees.
The feeling I had hoped to feel
Had to be this day
To enjoy as long as possible
Tomorrow is far far away.
