A Child's Wish

A Child’s Wish
God, you have many Angels, could you give one to me,
To be always beside me and keep me company.
I’d like my Angel to help me in my many chores,
Then I won’t feel that any task really bores.
God, I do not ask for much, only one Angel please,
To always help guide and give my heart some ease.
An Angel I can run and play with every single day,
I promise to make them happy and not get in their way.
When I’m all grown up, you can have your Angel back,
Is this too much to ask you, or must I use more tact.
I am told that I must share when I’m out at play,
I wonder if you’ll give one Angel, that’s all I have to say.
                         The Answer
My dear little child, that’s not possible for me,
If I give you an Angel, others will be unhappy you see.
And I need all my Angels, they help me everyday,
They can watch from Heaven, when you’re out at play.
I’d like to be obliging, but no Angel will I give,
They have many duties, looking into lives that people live.
I know it would be wonderful to have one of your own,
Really my dear child, they must stay with the holy throne.
                        Child’s Reply
Thank you so much dear Father. I think I understand,
I can not have an Angel, you need them at your hand.
If you ever decide to change your mind on this,
Remember that I’m only a child, with a child’s wish.
And dear Father, I won’t pressure you anymore today,
For I know you have an Angel watching while I play.
I also know your love is with me every day and night,
I won’t ever be afraid, for you hold me oh so tight.

When the Telephone Rings

When you least expect, your phone will start to ring,
Someone on the other end, just has to do their thing.
“ Madam, I must inform you, your gas will be turned off “,
They don’t give you a chance to sigh or even cough.
It seems when you’re really down, problems just get worst,
Anything that can go wrong, well it’s like we’re bloomin cursed.
The thunder of the phone again, what else could ruin your day,
“ We’ll have to disconnect your phone, if you don’t quickly pay “.
Now, if that isn’t bad enough, the telephone rings again,
The hydro is out to get you and you’re in such awful pain.
You won’t have heat to warm you, you cannot take a bath,
You’ll have to figure what you owe, if you can do the math.
There’s no tone on the telephone, your line is simply dead,
What are you going to do, for you have this horrid dread.
Others can not help you, cause your phone is out of whack,
What can you possibly do, but crawl back in the sack.
Just then the doorbell starts to ring, who in the world can it be,
A man standing at the door, you need help so desperately.
“ I’d like to inform you madam, I have great news for you,
The bank’s issued you a cheque, from someone you once knew”.

Casino

We're going to the Casino,
Just to have some fun.
But all our hard earned money,
Takes off on the run.
The glitter of the dancing lights,
Busy bustle of the crowd.
There's no angry fights,
People aren't too loud.
Ringing of the slot machine,
As you pass along the aisle,
Folks at gaming tables,
Are not in single file.
People save their money,
For one night on the town,
When their through their evening,
The magic let's them down.
Some folk feel quite lucky,
Others really are,
As they head to the parking lot,
And drive away in their old car.

Country Singers

I'd like to tell a story,
About country singers of my day.
They had lots to sing about,
They had a lot to say.
Webb Pierce was from Nashville,
He sang right from the heart,
Hank Snow from Nova Scotia,
Was moving from the start.
Lefty was a great one,
William's made it big.
George Jones we often heard,
Didn’t make it to a gig.
Horton left us early,
Patsy Cline, she did so too.
Chet Atkins played a mean guitar,
Kitty Wells, stuck like glue.
Only just a few I've named,
Their fame will never die,
Statler brothers, Oak Ridge boys,
I love you, it's no lie.

A Grown-Ups Prayer

Dear Father, can you spare an Angel to be with me today,
I am not a little child, I’m grown up in many-a-way.
I said I wouldn’t bug you, many years ago,
But my mind is set on that Angel I had wanted so.
I’m not that little child who just wanted to pretend,
I sometimes feel so lonely and need another friend.
Father, I have respect for you and love beyond compare,
But do you have an Angel, that with me you will share.
                       The Answer
My dear grown up child, my answer has to stand,
I will not send an Angel from the promised land.
My good Book I have sent you and music you can sing,
I will not single out just one, and give them everything.
But one thing I can promise, my Angel will visit you,
When your life is over, my Heaven will be in view.
So live your life for Jesus the way you aught to do,
For my Angels up in Heaven are certainly watching you.
                       The Reply
Thank you dear Father, this time I really understand,
I will not have an Angel till I go to the glory land.
I will strive to do what’s right and just be satisfied,
To live for you dear Father and the Lord who was crucified.
I will never plead with you for an Angel anymore,
I know they have to stay around Heaven’s golden door.
Thank you for your patience, you have been tolerant of me,
Father, hold your thought on my Angel, if it pleases Thee.

Heaven's Gate

When I stand at Heaven's gate,
I hope I haven’t been too late,
To ask forgiveness of my sin,
So God will welcome me right in.
On earth I had a lot of time,
To live a life that was divine.
I heard His Word, but I was lost,
I know that Jesus paid the cost.
People often spoke of Him to me,
But I was blind and could not see.
Oh precious Lord, believe me now,
As I stand at Heaven's gate and bow.
Believe me when I say, I know why
Jesus went to the cruel cross to die.
And now He's beyond Heaven's gate,
I hope dear Lord I’m not too late.

A New Born Babe

I knit these baby clothes to say,
Each stitch came from my heart.
The hours that I spent each day,
Will give the babe a start.
It is a joyful day we know,
When we bring them to our home,
On love and tears the child will grow,
Then they’ll start to roam.
Let them know that love is there,
Through all your love and tears.
Then they’ll know you really care,
And grow stronger through the years.
There is nothing like a baby’s cry,
To melt the heart of man.
Soon we understand the why,
And fix it when we can.
God bless your little tiny child,
For He watches over you,
When a new day may seem so wild,
Our God will see you through.

Our Father Cares

I have a sad story that I'd like to tell,
About a family among us not doing so well.
Their precious daughter is indeed mighty sick,
A rare illness, a disease they can't lick.
The father lost the only job that he knew,
Sorrow deepened in his heart, it just grew.
The mother is doing the best that she can,
Her sadness is growing; not according to plan.
The son is so young, not a thing can he do,
Thinking it over, their depending on you.
On Sunday we heard the preacher speak,
A good family huddled together, so meek.
The father spoke out to them all around,
Please help my family, we're loosing ground.
Then a miracle, surprise!, did so abound,
God's answer!, which was oh so profound.
The doctor says, the girls’ crisis has passed,
And the father found a job that he knew would last.
We know their prayers reached God up above,
For He rallied around them, with all His great love.
