Fake It

How many fake smiles
Have you put on before?
When inside your beating heart
Is broken and torn.
How many tears
Has your pillow held at night?
When you lay there, broken,
Hidden from everyone's sight.
How many attempts
At your life have you taken?
They don't see that you're broken,
Not only bruised but emotionally beaten.
Pain is inevitable,
These feelings you hold.
But you'll tell them you're fine
'Cause that's what you've been told.

Taking Risks

I’m climbing too high
And I look down below
To see I’m on top of the world
Of the love I once knew.
I never told you
That I was afraid of heights,
But I never needed to,
Because you took away the fright.
But I feel like I’m going to fall
And break once again.
I need to stop climbing
And maybe descend.
But your love makes me climb higher
And I’m stuck with the thought
If I should stop while I’m ahead
Or risk the long fall.

Trust

What is trust to you?
Does it mean anything?
Is it a word or a label?
Does it actually have meaning?
I trust way too easy;
My emotions gain control.
My problem is I give it to those
Who treat it like a joke.
My heart has grown heavy,
My trust is now very thin.
Am I not worth the truth?
Do my words escape with the wind?
Can't you see all my pain?
Do you enjoy me being hurt?
You don't even realize
How much my trust is worth.
I refuse to trust anyone.
This pain I cannot bear.
So I'll lock up my trust,
'Cause obviously no one cares.

Giving Up

This time I have to end it,
I'm sorry for never understanding.
Or maybe I did I just don't get it,
And now you're leaving is half-expected.
I hope you'll be happy
Like we were.
And you remember me
Even though this goodbye hurts.
I wish we could live
In the good moments again.
And even though it's goodbye for now
I hope this isn't the end.

Life

They said loving you wasn't easy,
That it was really tough.
But I knew that you were different,
And your love for me was enough.
You had faced your many challenges,
But you were never alone.
And those nights when you felt anger
I knew you didn't want to be done.
No matter how much you had hurt,
Or the tears that you had shed,
You'd continue living on for me
Because you wanted life instead.

Fear

In the darkness it lurks,
In the shadows it creeps.
In my nightmares I see it
And it terrifies me.
When will it leave me?
I don't want it near.
It's a four-lettered battle
We all know as fear.

Forgotten

Up on the top of a hill
With a windy, narrow road
Sits a little cemetery,
It's residents always home.
In the middle of this resting place,
A girl sits by a grave.
Unmarked and with no flowers
Is where she spends her days.
It's unknown who is buried there,
Or how long it has been.
All she knows is when she dies,
She'll have a gravestone just like them.

Love Is War

What hurts us the most?
Can someone please explain,
How an emotion such as love
Is so easy to blame.
Why is love hard?
Why is love unfair?
Why do we say we only need love
When our hearts are filled with despair?
Why do we keep saying
That love is worth the fight
When in reality we know
Love chokes our hearts so tight.
You should know when to stop
And when to go on more.
But there’s one thing we need to realize:
Love is always a war.

She's Fine

"I thought she was fine"
They say as they walk past her.
Her cold, lifeless body
That apparently didn't matter.
No one seemed to care
When she said she was hurt.
And she was given a life
She didn't think she deserved.
But now maybe they'll see
What a lie she could hide
When they asked how she was
And she whispered "I'm fine".

Pain

Have you ever hurt so badly
That you can feel it in your throat?
The pain that engulfs your heart
And slowly swallows your soul.
Have you ever heard some news
And your chest completely caves?
Your eyes can’t produce tears
Because your heart has so much pain.
Have you ever felt your face turn red
And you have to say “I’m fine”?
Inside you feel you've given up
But people say “give it time”.
Truly the worst pain to feel
Is a heart that has no feeling.
And you have to live a normal life
With a dead heart that’s still beating.
