For Wifey

I used to be hard for the world cause it told me I was soft
but you taught me how to cry how to take my armor off

how do more than dream how to think out of the box
How to love my self for real not just say it out my mouth

how to laugh at myself without getting so uptight
girl I love you till death cause you loved me to life

and even when we disagree, and I really work your nerves
moments later I realize you are more than I deserve

I can unload my secrets that's been bottled up for years
knowing they stay where I leave them cause it's only for your ears

you pushed me to be better than I ever would have been
and when I get comfortable you do it all again.

It's sad that you can count the flowers that I bought you on one hand
but you can't count how much I love you until numbers have a end

My Train of Thought Now At 36

we stimulate our minds for our intellect to grow
becoming more technical
remaining spiritually slow

so we face trials and tribulation
crisis and complications
praising God, while serving Satan
expecting love when spewing hatred

our faith is dissipating
until its totally forsaken
for miracles we pray
yet and still we disobey

missed lessons
means blocked blessings

wrong paths are chosen
cursed to glimpse the promised land but never enter like Moses

it's hard to humble ourselves cause we've got pride
so we find a hard head leaves a soft backside

when stressed i ride
reclined, inside

sounds booming
trying hard to decipher the message in our music

Pac said keep your head up
Treach said guard your grill
Wu sang protect your neck
Cube said to kill at will

Eazy said easy does it
Run said hard times
Jigga ask can I live
but Big ready to die

50 cent said get rich ore die trying
K.R.S made stop the violence, and listen to my nine

these are questionable times
that leave young impressionable minds
hoping to find success pushing dope on the grind

thinking all the pain would end if they became rich
but the harder they hustle the more pain and anguish

if we could understand the hustle
we would over stand the struggle
instead we constantly land back in trouble

on frivolous pursuits
searching for forbidden fruits
living lies until they collide with the moment of truth

I been there and done that
played with fire and got burned as soon as my hand healed I'd run back

so young and misguided
mama said don’t do it I tried it
it's by God's grace I survived it

flash back to my youth I was so naive and timid
wondering if that path I walked on is the one the Lord intended
tired of getting beat by bullies so I learned to prevent it
but I found my self in front of the judge as a defendant

five times aquited of crimes that I committed
but the one time I was innocent is when I got convicted
justice may be blind, but she so vindictive
so I struggle with it
trying to make since out of the senseless

To My Black Pearl

In a world filled with lost black girls
I found my cultured pearl
highly respectable
and very intellectual

with beauty that extends beyond the skin
to me she is far beyond a 10
in life the best blessing

I have ever encountered
through the Lord I found her

angel with no wings
that plays my heart strings
and gets me so excited
until finally I had to write it
this is my heart where you are cordially invited

to stake your claim
plant your flag,write your name
for eternity you will course through my veins

your the ying to my yang
the name my heart sang
everything is you are my everything

I love you is a understatement none can take your place
your my oxygen without you I would suffocate

We moved so rapidly
became a family
you bought out the man in me
even had my little man for me

love of my life completely free from drama
worthy of being my wife, I did it right not just a babies mama
so I will honor
you forever shatada

I Can't SEE ME WITHOUT YOU

To my wife Shatada who loved me unconditionally. SEPT 4 2008 MAKES 9 YEARS.

2010 Truths and Thoughts

pressure bust pipes
stress can burst a blood vessel
chilling is the remedy but life wont let you

young guys think your soft when you decide to wise up
old men looking like your not quite wise enough
I learned long ago that the hood life was not enough
all they want is something in their dutch or their cup

high and drunk while the hour hand is running laps
if you sleep your whole life you wake up to a dirt nap

the family structure is faulted
dads addicted, mom tricking while granny singing take me to the water

these little ones are crazy spraying shots indisriminate
they're the grandchildren of the crack epidemic
the 80s was crazy the 90s was grimey
and the past decade was more like an insane asylum

they follow fools by the flock, while righteous men get mocked
Lord I'm listening in case you tell me to go build an ark
when you hear the growl from the stomach, and feel the pain from the hunger
poverty and crime combine like lightning and thunder
hopelessnes and despair that can break a man quick
have him ready to break all 10 commandments

the youth are heat holding like wolves in sheeps clothing
and all he want is more of what he's smoking

in less than a heartbeat he'll stop your heart beat
then write a song to brag about it over a hot beat

the streets have a cruel set of rules and guidelines
he wanted to be a millionaire but lost his life lines
trust in the wrong one the outcome dissatrious
those fake friends will front in your face and back stabya
disloyalty in your circle can hurt you
plus your enemies are lurking to push the knife in further
where a simple robbery can easily become murder
because their young and their dumb and in love with the sound of a burner

Come Home (First Verse)

AS my chest gets pumped by the rescue team
I see my soul slowly hover over the scene

my life begins to flash I see me in my youth
stealing candy out the store in my Easter suit

I used to skip Sunday school and the bible lessons
but those vital lesson could have saved my adolescents

my mom stressing I was completely outrageous
my education wasn't between the text pages

was so impatient these streets fed what I was craving
It left mom weeping and waiting praying and pacing

with total dedication she would sacrifice
I'm out the back with hoodlums in the night

involved with all types of things that won't right
and moms used to gripe about what did each night

but Im in my zone
Im grown
as a matter of fact I'm gone
leaving mom up waiting for praying for her son to come home

When Did I Start Loving You???????????

before Jeezy and Weezy
before going platinum was easy
before rock wit it snapping and leaning
before the souls of B.I.G and Pac was leaving
before the media hyped the east and the west into beefing
before thugging was a part of emceeing
before your image was the star it was words and meanings
before the girls in Compton sang we want Eazy
before Rakim told us to follow the leader
before Run was rhyming about his Adidas
before Grandmaster Flash got his first set of needles
before rappers delight pumped out of radio speakers
before djing,break dancing,emceeing,grafhetti
before I learned to tie up my sneakers
before my mom felt the kick of a fetus
before Africans were kidnapped and beaten
before Harriet Tubman lead them to freedom
before blacks were considered 3/4 people
before the pilgrims left for religious freedom
before Judas sold out Jesus
before the serpent deceived eve in the garden of Eden
before light seperated the morning and evening

I HAVE LOVED YOU

Contradictory Cliches

first " there's not time like the present" then they say "haste makes waste"
then "don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today"

"the more things change the more they stay the same" some say
and in the next breath"tomorrows another day"

they say "if it don't happen naturally then leave it"
then "if at first you don't succeed try try again "can you believe it?

Dear God (I Been Struggling)

Dear God I been struggling all my life
for the sins I committed I paid the price
learned to live with regrets and sacrifice
da da da da da da da da da da da

I contain unspeakable secrets in the depths of my mind
my eyes have witness the wickedest sickness of mankind
In been conflicted at times
by my on mind confined
implicated in crime and briefly confined

Now I'm a family guy and there much more than worth it
but what if all the beef from my past comes to the surface

that's not what I sweat I got theLord to protect
if the strings get pulled on the devils marionettes
but in the event they approached with the intent of my death
I'd still send shots down the center like I'm dialing collect

always a peaceful cat except for my youth
when I swore that I wore a bullet proof gorilla suit
and in the heat of the streets deepest beefs I found
every shot that came would miss be by a country mile

until that one that came to erase the life of Dwayne
it murder portions of me and the rest if left in pain
in a since he's still here cause his blood flows through my veins
and my faith dictates I can see him again

all though the pain never lessens their are lessons in pain
for what does not kill me gives me strength to gain

Dear God I been struggling all my life
for the sins I committed I paid the price
learned to live with regret and sacrifice

(way of the World) My Train of Thought At 21

visualizing moments from my past
i had friends that were too fast
and now they're pushing up grass

some pulled triggers to prove they were'nt punks
got sent to prison to spend their lives on jail bunks
in this world of wicked people
its seems like um walking a tightrope between good and evil

shedding tears for my peers who passed away
but we cant go back to yesterday
and this world is hard as steel
one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel
so if i slip I'm outta here
I can't cope and since I don't smoke dope I drank a lotta beer

but I can't go to the store and drink a quart of brew
without running into the can I have a quarter crew
it seems they beg so much
their hands look like cups
enough is enough
it's back to doing stickup

killers busts caps
so I bust back
plus these crakheads are birthing little maniac rugrats

I'm changing much like the seasons do
everybody praise the power of the trigger so im squeezing too
if i negotiate they think I'm soft
I guess they can only understand the sound of pistols going off

so if its me or him picture that cat as good as popped
I'd rather lie behind some iron bars than in a wooden box
so send him flowers and bring me ciggarettes
not for a rep but Im going to choose life over death
i guess thats the way of the world and sense I cant change it
then how I feel is how I will bring it.
i

Dwayne Anthony Woods 1973-1996

so much pain
Lord why did you have to take Dwayne

I dont mean to question your judgement
but I just miss my cousin

in hindsight I can see that we was living wrong
but I dont think the cure was two bullets in his lungs

at the funeral while they quote proverbs and Psalms
I'm holding on his moms arm trying to keep her calm

she crying my sons another homocide victim
if that bullet would have knicked him it would have gotten our attention
