The Woman I Want To Be

The woman i am now
Is only half the woman
I want to be
The man I am with
Is more than half the man
That I need
I was never really
Good at math
But when I put one and one together
It equals two people
That fit each others equation
Living everyday as if it was my last
I strive on
I push on
Day after day
Finding myself
The bits and pieces that make me, me
Building that other half
Of that woman I want to be

The Measure of Beauty

How do measure someone's beauty?
Is it the thickness of their hips?
The smooth lined makeup on their face?
Or is the mystery of whats
Underneath all that
Makes you want to breathe?
The air in their space
You turn to the tv
Beautiful slender figures
Parade around the screen
Then a big brotha or sista walks by
So now you choose the option
To appreciate it or be mean
And that person tries to hide the pain
That feeling of inadequency
Makes want to eat away your the shame

Who Knows What Tommorrow Might Bring

Who knows what toMight bring
If the next great leader
Will be born
Whether they grow from that greatness
Or take society's judgmental sting
Or if a minority president
Wiil be given a chance
Or if every wheelchair bound person
Will be touched by God's hand
Or if we'll raise enough
To cure every sick person under the sun
Or will rationality and statistics
Come into play
And ruin every sick child's hope
Of ever having any fun
Let me put in to you
Sorta kick my meaning up a notch
I, for one, don't want sit back and watch!

Between the Lines

Can any help me
Read between the lines
Why us youth act like spectators
When are barely in our prime
So many stories untold
So much ignorance has been spread
Some caged like animals
9 out of ten pregnant or end up dead
Can u help me read between the lines
Why cant we realize
We are the future, masters of our domain
My heart goes out
To every mother, to every unborn child
Who will suffer
From the ways of our world
We help in some way create
Does anyone deserve a sign
Our unnecessary triles and tribulations
For not reading between the lines

Power of Temptation

Sometimes in life temptation takes hold
You dont want to act to soon
And you dont want to be too bold
The power of desire to
Progress or indulge in depression
Takes you by the hand
And turns your life either right side up, Or upside down
Instead of learning from our fore fathers
We run blindly into this jungle
Full of goods and temptations
Thinking we got this
While life lesson run through you
Trying to mold your inner self
To that person you want to be
Blinded by temptation
Locking the door of growth
Throwing away the key
This could be happening to you
Because it happened to me
