Hattye Jones Poem
to my daddy, Walter M. McGlothin (Aug. 2, 2005)... going home!!!
When someone you love is taken away
There is never enough time
No matter if its
Days,
Weeks,
Months,
Years,
Eons...
~
The heart can't seem to handle an absence
That is the beginning of its existence
~~
My daddy died today...
And eighty-six years of living, still
Did not prepare our hearts for God's will
Forty-nine years of knowing him
Still did not brace me as his life dims
~~
My daddy died today...
And yesterday I prayed
That his suffering be stayed
Yet I wasn't ready to accept
His calm face as he eternally slept
In the hospital bed in desperate escape
Wearing a diaper that made my heart ache
Needing a tell-tale sign that life just slowed
Not stilled; finding none, the blood no longer flowed
I was not ready to let him go...
~~
My daddy died today...
Surrounded by a family's dismay
Seeing his strength slipping away
Before our eyes each day
A strong, proud man
Never in need of a helping hand
Riding a bike at age eighty-plus
Able to out talk the lot of us
Dwindling as sifting sand
To a small fragile man
A diminishing strength behind the pain
He steadfastly refused to claim…
~~
My daddy died today…
And we left to mourn his passing
Know within our hearts that everlasting
The originator of our field of flowers
Is resting with the omnipotent powers
In serenity of death the pain belied
He endured during his living decried
~~
The warmth of his hand
As I for the last time
Touched my father’s soul casing
A memory that will forever be mine
~~
My daddy died today…
And in the faces of my sisters, brothers
Nieces, nephews and my mother
I saw the blessing his life had given
I saw the strength we inherited even
When we didn’t see it during his living
~~
I saw the love of a family that will miss
The essence of my daddy’s character
And mourn the passing of his spirit
From here to the forever after
~~
My daddy died today…
And now I know why God granted me
The many days we sat on his porch together
As he told me about the life of a man
I didn’t know even though he was my father
Now I can see the dark cloud blessings
Seeing his strength weaken to a point of realizing
That God has indeed blessed him to live
To understand the one thing only God can give
~~
Life
This one granted abundantly
Through the blessings of a loving
Overflowing, caring family
Our riches and wealth realized
Magnified
And deeply
Exemplified...
On the day my daddy died

Hattye Jones Poem
Lend me a listen
And hear this tale of woe
The life and times
Of a man 'called' Joe
Keep still, keep quiet
Hush, listen to the sound
The silent footsteps of a man
As he walks his native ground
Joe was born long, long ago
Across the waters blue
In a land of plenty
There, Joe the babe grew
Five generations deep
A lifetime of needs supplied
Hard work, respect for self
Full of heritage and pride
Now, Joe's given name was 'Shakka'
A father, a husband, a strong man
One day while hunting
Was snatched from the 'Motherland'
In a ship made of wood
With white sails full mast
Joe and fellow countrymen
Were in the deep below casted
Please, listen a little longer
Can you hear the pain
The fear, the confusion
The frustration of chains
Landing on the auction block
Stripped of humanity and pride
There, Shakka's name was lost
And all his rights deprived
The years were hard, the master cruel
In a strange and foreign land
With obstacles to suppress
Still Shakka (called Joe) remained a man
The whip couldn't break that freedom spirit
Held deep within his soul
Joe vowed that freedom dream
His people someday restore
Listen, can you hear the silence
As his people struggle on
Keep still? ...Keep quiet?
Has all the work been done?
Remember:
Joe's dreams
Shakka's screams
Mother's crying
Children dying
Policemen hosing
Prison doors closing
Dog attacks
Refusing the back
College sit-ins
Integration begins
Malcom's plight
Martin's fight
Jesse's stand
RESPECT, DEMAND!
Mandela's victory
Apartheid's history
A borrowed ear, Joe's tale's been told
Yet the struggle remains
Speak Out! Shout Loud! the time has come
Total freedom we must regain

Hattye Jones Poem
Can you hear the whisper
This 'psst' of love emitting from my heart
Listen very intimately for faint is the pulsation
Afraid of reopening the wound so skillfully concealed
Can you hear the whisper
Of my soul resounding from your nearness
Filling the hollowness that has searched tenaciously
From afar in hopes of a curative balm of love
Can you hear the whisper
Of a spirit struggling to be released
Freedom from the pains and hurts of yesterday
Freed from the disappointments and disillusions of today
Can you hear the whisper
It’s calling your name ever so sweetly
Come be my knight in dented and dinged armor
Ride with me into the morning light and the nights setting sun
Can you hear the whisper
It’s calling your name ever so sincerely
Come complete me, make me unconditionally yours
So that when you whisper my name, I’ll follow you anywhere.

Hattye Jones Poem
A tenderly caressed love
Blooms as a precious flower
Generous touches, gentle care
Sprinkled by a passionate shower
Grasp it
Cling to it
As if dear life depends
Treasure it
Take care of it
Because the time may come when...
The leaves fall
The blossoms fade
The fragrance a lingering scent
As the miracle of Spring
A prescribed love's bud
Spring anew the memories spent

Hattye Jones Poem
My Chocolate Knight on a black stallion…
Riding into my desolate
Darken heart
Decay
Galloping toward my disillusions, heartaches…
Radiating a hope of
Brighter
Days
~~
I wait
Breathlessly
Hearing the pounding of his presence...
Desiring
The reality of his nearness
Sensing the soothing comfort of his essence
~~
Is it
The sound of happiness...
Echoing in this powerful pulsating beat
Is it
The expectation of love...
Beaconing me as still I await in silent retreat
~~
My Chocolate Knight on a black stallion...
Dinged and dented armor
Shining through
The darkness
Of a heart's
Despair
Illuminating the throbbing emptiness
As impatiently I wait
Finally exhaling
The stench of
Love-depleted
Air
~~
Is it an
Earthshaking...Comic blast
Life reshaping...explosive spill
Or just
A summoning rhythmic repeating
A calmness getting closer and closer still
~~
My Chocolate Knight on a black stallion
My happiness, my prince
~~My chance
Rescuing my imprisoned heart
As I await no longer
For romance
~~~
Thundering through disappointments storms
Illuminated-lightening revealed flashes
Of a future
"US"
Torrential rains washing away the grime
Healing...Cleansing disillusions'
Embittering
Crust
~~~
"Mount up with me my princess
Let's ride into our forever-more
I shall be your heart's defender
For it is you my heart long for"
~~~
Falling...
Holding tenaciously
And securely being held
Totally, absolutely complete
Two
Gallantly armored
Galloping in contentment
By two hearts' combined beat
Hattye Jones Poem
As leaves
Fall silently in the park
Dancing on ‘our winds of yesterday’
Thoughts of you ring in each soundless flutter
When the songbird’s
Whispers fill my empty heart
Memories of our ‘couldhavebeens’
Disturb the silence of my fragile spirit
As the caress of a summer’s breeze
Awaken that day we spent creating a 'forever'
The remembered taste of a shared never ending kiss
Lingering in the slightest touch of a once is not enough…
Makes me wonder if you still remember…
~~~~
As the sun’s warmth melt
Away the wishes of an ‘if only’
That silenced the longing of a forbidden love
Knowing that hearts were not free to the unexpected 'US'…
And the clouds
Slowly drift dissipating the shadows
That concealed the place our hearts first coupled
Our ‘heaven-for-a-moment’ suddenly became my living hell
~~~
In our world of wishes and kisses
We got lost in the creation of a dream
Lost in a world suppressing our true reality
Awaiting the comfort of our planned next lifetime
And I'm left wondering if you will remember….
Hattye Jones Poem
Misplaced love’s disillusions
Has long found it’s justification
In my heart’s diminished expectations
The lesson was worth it all
Paid the price for my pains standing tall
Creating a desire to construct indestructable walls
~~~
But
~~~
I found
Contentment in 'my today'
Dissipating couldhavebeen thoughts at bay
Discovered in the sudden appearance of my now and always
~~~
Now
~~~
My “IS”
He’s everything required
Fulfilling most of my desires
Strong, noble, honest and love inspired
~~~
THEN
~~~
You came along
With your seem-so-right injection
Fulfilling my fantasy of manly perfection
Where did you come from
Better still how did you get here
Knowing your life is too filled for me
Yet creating a longing of having you near
Did God make one
And sin separated us into twos
And you decide to show up now
When there is no space in my life for you
~~~
I know why my yesterdays
Are in the yesteryears where they belong
And I know that my today is my heart’s home
So
How is it that
My tomorrows suddenly includes you
In a world of dreams and wishes never to be true
Perfection only a fantasy
Your presence is confusing my reality
Why and how did you invade my emotional security
~~~
Tis not fair
That a tomorrow
Appears disturbing the comfort of today
Knowing within this lifetime there is no room
Tis not fair
My ‘split apart’ exist
Appearing when the next best
Has my heart and soul consumed
~~~
Where
Were you
When my life needed you
Longed for you, dreamt of you
As
I sat
Patiently
In the Park
~~Waiting~~
