50 Years-Korean War

Published by Poetry Explosion of PA
In Loving Memory of my Dad, Peter J. Mariotti
He left this world on May 9, 2011. I miss him so.

50 Years-Korean War

Dad, you were one of the foot soldiers,
		When the Korean War began,
You were among the many to fight
		In this foreign land,

		You went bravely into battle,
Because our country told you to go,
		You didn’t ask any questions
You just went to fight the foe,

		North Korea was Communist,
		South Korea was not,
		The country had been split
		After World War II,
		Now American boys were fighting
		On Korean soil,
The South Koreans needed help from
		The Red, White and Blue

		Dad, you were a hero,
		You served our country well,
		Now after 50 years
You finally were able to tell,
		The story of your war
		And the misery you saw,
The Korean War had been forgotten
		But now at long last,
		It will be remembered,
As an important part of our past.

		Love always

Astronaut In Space

Astronaut In Space

			The first step on Mars,
			An astronaut goes far,
			He samples the soil,
He can feel his blood boil,
			The Red Planet,
			A new world to explore,
			The Red Planet,
			Plenty in store,
			An astronaut is super human,
He has abilities none other possess,
In outer space, to aliens he has access,
He can go where no other has gone,
He can face a new dawn,
He can learn things that scientists want to know,
An astronaut has a big distance to go,
He is the epitome of a super hero,
			An astronaut, an American hero.

The Magic Tree

The Magic Tree

			The magic tree
			It calls to me
It brings me whispers of things to be,
Voices of the past pass through the leaves
Speaking to me of things gone by,
I hear the voices of the ones I loved,
Telling me of their enduring love,
How they watch over me from where they are,
Enabling my dreams to all come true,
The magic tree takes it time to grow,
Of the world’s mysteries it does know,
It gives out wishes, one, two and three,
			When the wind blows,
			The magic tree,
			Calls out to me,
It sends me love, warmth and the music of life,
It gathers me into its branches,
			And hugs me tight,
			The magic tree,
			It calls to me.

Let's Go Back In Time

Let’s Go Back in Time

Oh, if only I could turn the hands of time
Back to the way the world was in the ‘50’s, 60’s and 70’s,
We used to have old-fashioned values,
			People had family dinners,
Everyone dressed up for school, work, church, the theater,
Everyone always wore their Sunday best for special occasions,
Children played with their dolls and toys,
Little girls played with their tea sets,
Little boys played cops and robbers,
Programs like “Bewitched” and “All in the Family”
“Mr. Ed”, “The Wagon Train, “Hazel, “The Brady Bunch”
			were on TV,
people still had manners and said thank you and please,
			Americans were Americans,
			Proud of their country,
Proud to salute the flag and stand up for the National Anthem,
			Music was wonderful and beautiful,
The sounds of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin,
Of Andy Williams and Robert Goulet,
			Of Elvis Presley,
Of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons,
Of Fabian, Frankie Avalon and Bobby Rydell,
			We had good music then,
			We had singers then,
What has happened to our country?
It’s not the America we all knew,
I wish we could go back in time,
			To years gone by,
When people weren’t so plastic and had pride in themselves,
			When Life was good
			And you knew your neighbor,
How I wish we could go back, back in time.

A Good Mystery

A Good Mystery

I love a good mystery
A real whodunit,
I love the Hallmark Mystery and Movie Channel,
Nothing like watching Andy Griffith play the part of “Matlock”
He always figured it out
And revealed who the murderer is in the courtroom,
Sometimes he even played his mandolin and sang,
I love a good mystery,
Nothing like watching “Columbo”,
Peter Falk was one of a kind,
Playing the disheveled police lieutenant,
He always figured out who it was
Even though it was a perfect crime,
I love a good mystery,
Nothing like “Murder She Wrote”,
Angela Lansbury was priceless as Jessica Fletcher,
The mystery writer who could solve any crime,
Better than the local sheriff could,
I love a good mystery,
Nothing like watching Dick Van Dyke as Dr. Mark Sloan
In “Diagnosis Murder”
He always helped his son Steve
Solve the murder cases,
And Amanda and Jesse always were his sidekicks,
I love a good mystery
Nothing like watching Robert Wagner and Stefanie Powers as
Jonathan and Jennifer Hart,
A wealthy couple who are always in the center
Of solving a murder mystery,
Many times in exotic places, and
Other times in Los Angeles where they live,
Their butler Max was always in the thick of helping them solve a case,
I love a good mystery,
Nothing like watching Tom Bosley and Tracy Nelson,
As Father Dowling and Sister Steve,
Getting in the middle of some risky situations,
In places you wouldn’t expect to see a priest or nun,
But their detective skills always help them to solve a case,
I love a good mystery,
Nothing like watching “Garage Sale Mystery” with Lori Loughlin, as Jennifer Shannon,
Her antique store and her garage sales lead her
To murder mysteries,
Danielle, her partner is her sidekick, always in the middle of helping
Jennifer solve a whodunit
I love a good mystery,
Nothing like Candace Cameron Bure as Aurora Teagarden,
The librarian who stumbles upon dead bodies,
And suspicions are cast on her Real Murder Club,
Somehow Aurora manages to solve the mystery,
I love a good mystery,
Nothing like watching Alison Sweeney,
In Murder She Baled with Cameron Mathison, as the police detective,
As she bakes up a lot of goodies for her bakery,
She seems to have a knack of stepping into a situation
Where she finds a dead body and her quest for the truth leads her to solve the mystery,
I can go on and on with the many wonderful mysteries,
I watch all the time
On the Hallmark Mysteries and Movie Channel,
Oh, how I love a good mystery.

Time To Laugh

Time to Laugh

The whole world is upside down,
Need a laugh, need a clown,
The whole world is lopside crazy,
Time to stop and pick a daisy,
Everything is who said, you said,
I just want to hear good ole Mr. Ed,
He was the famous horse who could talk,
And Wilbur Post was his owner,
Mr. Ed is always good for a laugh,
The times we live in make you wish you could twitch,
Time to sit and watch the old “Bewitched”,
Endora with her powerful spells, and
Aunt Clara who goofed all her own spells up,
They are always good for a laugh or two,
Time to sit and watch the old shows,
Good ole Matlock, he could solve any crime,
And play the ukulele at the same time,
He was always good for a laugh,
And there was good ole Beaver,
Who got into so much mischief,
				But it was all innocent,
And good for a laugh or two,
How I wish the world of 2015,
Could be as good and as pristine,
The way it was back then,
The world today is not good at all,
I wish somebody would stand tall,
				But everyone is too afraid,
				How will things ever change?
If only things could be like they once were,
But life now is all such a blur.

I'M Only a Polar Bear

Celine Rose Mariotti

I’m Only a Polar Bear

Gosh, why do people not care?
		about me, a Polar Bear,
I live in a cold, cold, place
I wish you could see my face
		I protect my young cubs,
but people I tend to snub,
For because you pollute the air
		way, down there,
And you caused this change in the climate,
The ice is melting up here,
		You’re ruining the atmosphere,
Give me my cold, cold place
		Don’t take away my space!
		The Arctic is my home
I do not want to roam
Why don’t you try to care?
		Don’t you know?
		God loves us Polar Bears!

Life Should Be Like Disneyland

Life Should Be Like Disneyland

Life should be like Disneyland,
Everyday a little bit of Never Never Land,
Dreams fill your heart,
They give us a new start,
A delightful way to fill the day,
Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse,
Spread happiness your way,
And my way,
They lift you out of the doldrums,
Of everyday life,
All the pain and strife,
But then we get swept away
Into something dreamy,
Cinderella, finds her Prince,
Her slipper is the imprint,
She and the Prince,
Will live happily ever after,
The Prince and Cinderella truly matter,
Life for Pinocchio was a bit trying,
He often did a lot of crying,
But Jimminy Cricket
Showed him the way,
And Pinocchio found happiness
In every day,
So, life in Disneyland
It is so grand,
Life should be a Never, Never Land.

Beautiful San Francisco

Beautiful San Francisco

						In Northern California,
						By the Bay,
						There it is,
						That beautiful city,
						It’s the city Tony Bennett
						Sings of
“I Left My Heart in San Francisco”
						Those lovely trolley cars,
						Make it so unique,
Nob Hill, a street we all know,
						Fisherman’s Wharf, an interesting
						Array of shops,
						That famous Golden Gate Bridge,
My Dad told us he sailed by it
						On his way to Korea,
						During the Korean War,
My whole family got to see
						San Francisco,
For my Dad, it was special,
Home to the 49ers football team,
						Beautiful San Francisco,
						In Northern California,
						By the Bay,
						There it is,
						That Beautiful City,
						It’s the city Tony Bennett
						Sings of
“I Left My Heart in San Francisco”.
