Life Today

I just don't understand what is happening these days
Life has us turned around in so many ways
Was it like this when I was small?
Or does it happen when you grow tall?

Is it the phones and computers that run our life?
That lead us each day to this world of strife.
Wasn't it easier way back when
Do you remember writing with a pen?

Kids shooting kids at school
Isn't school a learning tool?
Bullying is also the trend
Whatever happened to being a friend?

Maybe if we went back to simpler times
There wouldn't be so much crime
Maybe if the drugs went away
More kids would come out to play.

I know I'm just as guilty as all the rest
Being without my phone would be a test
Is there a right answer, I think not
But maybe, just maybe food for thought.

Remembering

Today we celebrate Memorial Day
I'm sure a lot of you will get out and play.
As you relax with family and friends
Remember the lives that have come to an end.

The men and women who put their lives on the line
The men and women that left their families behind
The men and women some very young
The men and women whose lives barely begun.

This day say a prayer for those still fighting
And those that have come home with problems igniting
Missing limbs and scars galore
Issues to deal with and so much more.

Enjoy your day this holiday we share
Glance up at the sky and say a prayer
We share this day with all the soldiers so brave
Lay a flower upon that soldiers grave.

Mother Nature's Plan

Mother Nature’s Plan

Climate changes are everywhere
Hawaii is one place getting its share
Volcanoes, snow, hurricanes too
Mother Nature is showing her force through and through.

Madam Pele is showing us whose boss
I just hope it's not a terrible loss
Spewing her lava all around
Making her path all over the ground

Then there's snow on Mauna Kea's top
Temperatures up their sure did drop
Snow in Hawaii are you sure?
Well if you go on top you'll be saying brrrr

And then there's Ana, who's that you say
Well, the soon to be hurricane is headed our way
She hasn't decided quiet what to do
Too bad we can't tell her just to shoo.

Whatever happens to our beautiful state?
We can handle whatever is put on our plate
Mother Nature has a plan, why you ask
Well, it's simple you see we're up to the task.

So once again, keep your things handy
Have your batteries, food and maybe some candy.
Stay safe don't be foolish you know what to do
Have your blankets and clothes and don't forget shoes.

Aloha is what it's all about
Maybe look in on your neighbors, give them a shout.
We can all do this, you know we can
After all you see it's in Mother Nature’s plan.

Children

Children

Life can be difficult that fact is well known
Your kids are your kids after their grown
We may not always see eye to eye
But somehow you need to let hard times fly by

You can't let things linger
And you can't shake your finger
You just hope you can guide them if they ask
But don't be offended when you’re not given the task

They will raise their kids the way they think best
Just like we did when we were put to the test
This is a cycle we all live by
Things may get hard we might even cry

When you watch your son with two boys and a girl
And know this is hard, mixed up with some frills
You know you have taught him the best that you can
You sit back and smile what a wonderful man

Then there's your daughter, who has a little one
As she sits and feeds her newborn son
It's so hard to know the right things to do
But you know she's ready as he sits there and coos

Parents and children are gifts from above
Mistakes may be made but there will always be love
Never take things for granted whatever you do
And know all that we do is just for you

So always show love be it parents or kids
And know that the differences can sometimes be hid
Don't let the small things take control of your life
And always show love to your parents, kids, husband and wife.

I hope you understand what I'm trying to say
We will always love you each and every day
Your kids will always know the love you've shown
Even after they're all full grown

Halloween

The ghosts and goblins are out tonight
If you don’t watch out you might get a fright!
Super heroes are dressed with a cape
Some costumes might have reflection tape.

You might see Indians with paint on their face
Or maybe a bride all dressed in lace
A jack-o-lantern all big and round
Or a mummy that doesn’t make a sound.

A princess with a pretty dress
Maybe even a costume where you have to guess
You might even see a trash can walking about
Or something so scary you may even shout.

How bout someone dressed as a present
A flower costume would be ever so pleasant.
A robot that will walk all stiff
A dog that walks round and might sniff

A witch with a nose so ugly and big
Do you think someone will dress as a pig?
I wonder if someone will dress as a dog
Or maybe look like a big fat log.

I know, how bout dressing up like a pickle
Dress up like money, how bout a nickel.
No matter what costume you wear
You’ll probably get laughs or even a scare.

Make sure you say trick or treat
If you’re polite you’ll get goodies to eat.
So young or old and in between
I hope you all have a Happy Halloween!

Autism Is Her World

Autism is Her World

This little girl I’ve known all her life
Curls that bounce as she runs and laughs
Eyes that won’t connect with you
Frustration that turns to screams

Autism is her world

School can be a joyous time
A student of mine
Eager to learn, so excited
Always wants to please

Autism is her world

Smile is so bright and beautiful
Eyes that twinkle with delight
Loves all animals
Travels the world with her mind

Autism is her world

Stories that get written
Imagination that doesn’t quit
Knowledge that’s unstoppable
Hands and fingers move about

Autism is her world

My how she’s grown
Eyes try to look at you
Turning into a young lady
So beautiful

Autism is her world

Talks about her Autism
Knowing she will succeed
Zoologist is her goal
Countries where she will travel

Autism is her world

So many things on her mind
Worried and concerned always
Perfection is what she wants
Autism is her world

Spring

Spring
Spring has arrived that we know
The flowers are blooming, most saying good bye to snow.
Spring Break has pretty much come and gone
Easter has arrived with a new dawn.

Perhaps you'll attend a sunrise service to start your day
Or maybe eight days of Passover where you pray.
You see, what ever you believe, whatever you do
Spring is about starting fresh and new.

What about an Easter bunny with eggs to give out?
Or a child finding a golden egg you'll here him shout!
A pretty new dress with a bonnet to match
Or a baby chick that you just watch hatch.

Spring is so special to young and to old
Days are warmer nights not as cold.
Enjoy the start of a refreshing season
Hold on to your loved ones, you don't need a reason

Running

Running, running everywhere
Fast or slow, do I care?
uphill, downhill, roads and grass
I just never want to crash

The freedom I feel when I run
Feels good to say it’s really fun
Checking my time, checking my pace
Helps me prepare for my next race

Racing you say how can I be
Racing at age sixty-three
My knees don’t hurt they feel good
Keeping active I know I should

5K, 8 mile and now a half
What am I doing? Am I daf?
I’m going to enjoy all that I can
I’ll always be my number 1 fan!

The Storm

Bang went the thunder, lightning flashed
rain pounding hard, surf hitting the sand with a crash
These are the sounds that I hear
Waking me up as dawn draws near

Wondering what today will bring
Not sure if I’ll even hear the birds sing
As I sit and wait for the coffee to brew
Thinking of all the things I should do

Sitting here listening to the sounds
Listening to Mother Nature as she abounds
Her noise is loud her flashes are bright
But here I sit with my coffee all wrapped up tight

I think Mother Nature has this day planned
She’s letting us all know life is grand
Don’t take anything for granted, you must know
And keep your eyes open for the next rainbow.

Ocean

The waves are crashing on the beach
They look as though their trying to reach
Reach what? You say, you want to know
You would have to watch the surf move to and fro

The sound it makes can be a mighty roar
Or as softly as gentle laps on the shore
Diamonds touching the water from the sun
Pearls float on the water when day is done

Surfers, swimmers, floaters too
The ocean so big lots you can do
Take your boat out and catch a fish
Bring it home fix it as you wish

The ocean changes every day
The moon will help it guide the way
Waves can be huge or flat like a lake
Never take if for granted for goodness sake
