Entrepreneurship

Creative and driven
Bound to succeed
Seeing opportunity
Where others concede

Seeking out problems
To see in a new light
Creating solutions
Well into the night

Failures seen as lessons
Getting closer to goals
Reaching new heights
With them at the controls

Knowing their limits
Yet exceeding them at times
With each new venture
Their status now climbs

Giving back as they go
Regardless of ego
The capitalist spirit
In the form of a pro

When one idea is finished
Another is started
Taking so much risk
Is not for the faint hearted

First World Problems

Dilemma

Cold air of winter nights
Breath a visible mist
Gloves protect from frostbite
From fingertips to wrist

Ringing phone in my hand
Alerts important call
Now a flaw that’s unplanned
Gloves create a wall

Screen is shielded from a touch
This call I must now take
Removing hand from warmth’s clutch
Tough decision I must make

Snack attack

Squeaky clean with a hint of mint
Colored white, plaque is absent

Placed the brush by the sink
Now my stomach starts to think

A grumble calls from deep within
Hiding where my hunger’s been

What to do? The taste won’t please
Why does my stomach want to tease?

Hunger waits as I ignore
Thoughts of food and drink galore

With resistance I make a snack
And I brushed again, I’m back on track

Perseid Meteor Shower

Brilliant trails of light
Across a darkened sky
Fireworks in slow motion
A cosmic fourth of July

Scattered bursts of rubble
A dandelion in the wind
Extinguished in moments
Flash of light rescinds

Now I make a wish
As clouds obstruct my view
Will I get good fortune
Or only deja vu

Marketer's Playground

Pictures of their kids
And places that they travel
Post about their loves
As we watch them all unravel

Many posts are jokes
An attempt to seem comedic
Borrowed from another
Site that is encyclopedic

Some posts inspiration
In the hopes to spread some good
Others post too much
Shared more than they should

A form of entertainment
Mimicking real life shows
How this platform’s social
I’m sure that no one knows

Privacy concerns apparent
Ignored by common users
Marketing and Government
Now become the abusers

I use the sites for business
Because I am just as guilty
An end to pages of this type
Is nothing that I foresee

Star Gazing

Vast, endless sky
Reaching beyond imagination.
Small sparkles of light
And swirls of dark colors
Within the blackness.

From here everything looks small,
But in reality it is we that lack size.

Much is known, even more unknown.
It captivates our curiosity.
The muse to poets, artists
And science fiction writers.
The inspiration for scientists.

It reminds us of our insignificance,
Yet drives us to be more.

Will we ever know its mysteries?
I hope not…

Who Assumes Responsibility

Armed to the teeth, but not in the head
Soon the ground will be covered with dead

Shooting and fighting, explosions galore
Wounded fall to the ground, see the blood pour

Technology making the casualties increase
It seems that our warlike nature won’t cease

Skirmishes and battles, the war has no end
Doctors perform triage, some wounded they mend

Confidence slipping away from the troops every hour
Brute force and ammunition, the measure of power

Each side has their losses but keep fighting on
The reason for war is all a big con

Economy the reason, false causes the shield
Covered up by the blood of the dead on the field

Stone cold, committed, their expression soon thaws
Enlisted, now dying for another man’s cause

Passengers On the Train

A train that’s ridden from birth to death
Picking up passengers along the way
Some people there as short as a breath
Others that are there almost every day

I watch as some people keep their distance
Tending to their personal needs
Attempts to connect, met with resistance
And so without them life proceeds

Family and friends add comfort to the ride
Sharing the adventure for a while
Friends depart, from the group they divide
Some with regret, others hostile

Passing from one train to another
Changing their chosen path
Taking the memories with each other
Connecting as though a telepath

Family leaves like they've been derailed
Their journey ends at their final stop
Their purpose is now completely unveiled
Remembered with every tear drop

The train picks up speed as time passes
Hurriedly approaching the destination
Achievement and loss slowly amasses
Working to live through compensation

It reaches the end, the train clears out
All your loose ends are tied up
Now the unknown fills you with doubt
As the end of the line creeps up

End of the World

5 billion years have passed
Society is long since gone
The sun is now so vast
The Earth has its final dawn

Life has withered away
Leaving ruins in its wake
Memories fade in decay
A world that we forsake

Far away on another rock
Humans made their home
Still we avert death’s clock
As the universe we roam

We've continued to adapt
And look nothing like before
Our potential was untapped
Until we strived for more

Comfort In My Arms

As you lay right beside me
Snuggled tightly in my arms
I haven’t got a care in the world

Your sweet smell envelops me
Your soft gentle, skin caresses mine
As warmth is shared, our bodies curled

Stress and worry dissipate
Finding comfort in each other
As our two souls become one

We drift gently off to sleep
As our breathing begin to sync
As if our love has just begun

Waking still in my embrace
Not wanting to leave each other
But we let go all the same

Now we’re off to seize the day
Knowing we will return again
To that comfort we will reclaim

Psyche

As Freud describes humankind
With three divisions of the mind
Motivations now defined

Id is present from our birth
Driven by pleasures of the Earth
Wants and impulse, no self-worth

Balance, reason from the Ego
Deciding pleasures to forgo
Acting master of status quo

Super Ego stands its guard
Ensuring morals are not marred
Decision making it bombards

Balanced within yet torn by conflict
Three small forces that contradict
One that’s free and two restrict

Combined the three make who we are
From the normal to the bizarre
Psychoanalysis from afar
