A Panegyric Tale of Love

Neath shimmered strings of starlight’s breeze, crepuscular in night
on trodden soil he lay with slumbered eyes.
Lashed to oak, his chestnut mare in dream just out of sight
snaps free as lightning flashes; flares the skies.

Bounds to foot with double stride; yet late his capture earns
a feeble grip on equine hoof afoot,
his trusty steed, as mist might drift through juvenile sown ferns,
has vanished like dark ebbing motes of soot.

Miles from home, no transit back, bewildered by events
considers how to forge his journey home,
perplexing state, a quandary, unravels and presents
the only choice he has, which is to roam.

Through thicket thick, forest green, cross arid plains of dust
unto the homestead poised for his return,
discordant thunder stills his heart; wriggles in as thrust
compels him, for he knows they too do yearn.

For passage spry and safe, and quiescent nights on swag
now rolls his bed with reins onto his back;
through sheathes of rain, in startled fright, a lonely Sambar stag
hoof striking ground, preparing to attack.

Muzzles drawn, the beast is felled yet antlers gore both arms
as motion peters awkwardly apace,
bandages his wounded wings as parent-like alarms
resound upon the visage of a face.

Hidden by the brush, the physiognomy not seen
now trundles to its father’s fallen side,
its death is beyond doubt, lest his hand does intervene
to raise the fawn the way the buck had tried.

A careful snouted nudge from the fawn as sunup blooms
arises him from sleep, but only just,
passes over arid plains then through the vista looms
the iron gates of home bedimmed by dust.

Collapses through the gates on the soiree of her birth
returning home disheveled and delayed,
bent on being present so she’d never know a dearth
of every night, his whispered serenade.

Strength, in time, would vivify, recouping over weeks
the erred reason for his sullied trip,
remains on blocks, left un-repaired, despoiled by the leaks
and placed the fawn forever by her hip.

Eyes well up recalling, every year from that day on
his little girl’s elated monkeyshines,
when the gown was given her, how happiness had shone
into his heart his journey’s worth entwines.

Get Back Up

Assimilate your view
To match the status quo,
Consensus starts to skew
Hypocrisy on show,
Now you seem the clown
The eager willing pup,
It’s not the beating down
But how you get back up!

A friendship ill-advised
Treacherous and vain,
Before you realized
They’ve dissed you once again.
Smile into a frown
Superior or sup,
It’s not the beating down
But how you get back up!

Alcohol and drugs
Became your sanctuary,
Psychogenic thugs
Cleaving reality,
Out upon the town
Common sense you swop,
It’s not the beating down
But how you get back up!

Tattooed to the hilt
Judgement, every eye,
Predetermined guilt
Archaic in their lie,
Blackened, gray and brown
Squeezing ink to cup,
It’s not the beating down
But how you get back up!

Odins Prayer

The forests sing, the oceans cry,
The ravens soar through every sky
Into the corners of Asgard
To drive the thuds of Odin’s heart.
On Sleipner, he rides on through
Surveys the fallen, chooses you,
On wings of Valkries flies you home
To sit in pride beside his throne!

ODIN! Hear my call,
My soul belongs too thee,
FIRE! On my sword,
Bequeath me victory.

Brother Loki holds the flame,
Thor throws down the light and rain,
Upon the dragon-ships below
The battle-wails begin to grow.
Storming shores with torch in hand
To claim conquest upon the land,
So as to view the Cosmic Tree
And glean the wisdom same as thee.

ODIN! Now I know,
The secrets born of war,
The spoils I fought to own
I value more and more.

An ancient battle of the gods
To claim the land around, as ours,
To remain strong as number one,
At the behest of Odin’s sons,
To see the after-life assured
And all man’s imperfections, cured,
So one day, everyone will share
The hidden words, of Odin’s Prayer…

ODIN!!!! Grant my soul,
Unfettered passage through,
To Valhalla’s hall
So I may rest with you.

Demon On Your Shoulder, Angel On the Other

This one has been a labor of love, took nearly 3 weeks to write. Just couldn't get the meter right.
But with that said I think it works now.

Demonize the evil, to welcome in the good A youthful born upheaval, deciding where you stood, Rebellion touted over, honoring thy mother; A demon on your shoulder, an angel on the other! A schism, dormant, lies in every waking soul Consistently one tries to wrangle back control, From the feuding older than Abel and his brother; A demon on your shoulder, an angel on the other! Civilized of heart, conflicting symmetry Angelic swoons impart a wooing devilry, Blood pumping colder, lopsided one shall smother; A demon on your shoulder, an angel on the other! Twisting to and fro ‘tween good and evil deeds All the while you’ll know only one succeeds, Give in to the bolder as there’ll never be another Demon on your shoulder or angel on the other! 6/10/2013 © Copyright 2013 Adam Parker

Darkness Again

Banshees’ howl and werewolves’ prowl,
Medusa’s calling your name,
Under the cowl of vampiric fowl
You’re raising the stakes to the game.
A common greed, as succubi feed
Engulfing your final amen,
Planting the seed so all that you’ll need
Is the wisdom of darkness again!

Incubi mate invoking a fate,
Zombies seem so rotted out,
Cerberus waits, guarding the gate;
Screaming evolves from a shout.
Wendigo beasts and satanic priests
Infecting a poisoning pen,
Cannibal feasts, knowing at least
You’re welcoming darkness again.

Hessian witch, a smouldering *****
Cursing you all from the flame,
Spasmodic twitch relieving the itch
Still the figments of evil remain.
Entangled within a commoners sin
Corrupting the roots of our Zen,
Bleeding the kin and letting it in
Till we welcome the darkness again.

The Four Horsemen

When told to tow the lines
In steno-scopic sight,
Rebellious of the signs
Fight for your right to fight.

Presented with the guff
That all shall be all-right,
Predictably it’s rough
Fight for your right to fight.

Narcissistically!

Opposability!

Demonstrability!

Vindicability!

Welcome to the kingdom
Where will is just a blight,
Just a severed symptom
Fight for your right to fight.

Septic it may happen
In day or maybe night,
Shy of what you reckon
Fight for your right to fight.

Narcissistically!

Opposability!

Demonstrability!

Vindicability!

Lorded over ever
I’ll see the victor’s height,
Falling to the never
Fight for my right to fight.

I’ll beckon and I’ll win
From darkish into white,
Embedded in my skin
The simple right to fight!

Vindicability!

He, Himself, Death

I’ve sauntered through the centuries
Constructed this dark legacy,
Possessed the air of leprosy
And fell upon my feet.
I’ve wrangled with the unprepared
Pacified the truly scared,
Unsuccessfully repaired
The dread of when we meet.

I’m there when life is waning
Through the thrall of death, abstaining,
Till there’s little left remaining
But a husk of sand and earth,
I’ve marched with every army
Rode the crest of each tsunami,
But they seldom ever harm me
For I know perdition’s worth.

I’m the tourniquet you shy from
I’m that final, lasting swan song,
I’m the emperor of the throng
That no longer has a voice.
For they’ve paid their solemn dues
As their light of life’s removed,
Now my wiles are set on you
And you really have no choice.

Now when the end’s encroaching
With A wisp of me approaching,
You’ll cry and whimper, hoping
That I’ll spare your sulking soul,
But that’s not in my nature
And there is no power greater,
And I’ll never return later
‘Cause it’s time to pay deaths toll.

New Day

Falling hail will dull your sense
Drive your hope astray,
Reassemble your defense
Tomorrow’s a new day.
Find the well of frozen glory
Seep into its waves,
Be the hero of your story
Learn how it behaves.

Joy of heart, you’re yearning for
A child’s form of play,
Never had I known before
Tomorrow’s a new day.
Broker hope and turn the tide
Upon the shores of glee,
Widen and empower pride
And set your spirit free.

Fire a spark into your heart
Melt your feet of clay,
Knowing now as all days start
Tomorrow’s a new day.
Scale the heights of everything
Conquer, trump and win,
Beat the odds and let it bring
Your happiness back in.

Hold It Tight

Translucent, cool, refreshing
Through finger-tips caressing,
The challenge is arresting
I just cannot hold it tight.

The water trickles downward
Soon both my feet surrounded,
My finger-tips curl ‘round it
But I still can’t hold it tight.

If only it had body
For me to hold and study,
Then maybe I won’t worry
That I cannot hold it tight.

Now comes a revelation
A grasping of creation,
A pang of inspiration
I’ll just freeze it into ice.
