A Very Wise Woman

I was one of many that had the priviledge
to live with my Grandparents. The lessons
I learned from them will remain with me for
the rest of my life. My Grandmother was a
very wise woman and her way of thinking
and explaining things made me listen.
I remember when one of my so called friends
set me up with with a blind date. A horrible
evening for me. When I got home and told
the story my Grandmother just laughed. Finally she ask me
"are you sure she is your friend", then she told me
the story of the rattlesnake.
Once there was a rattlesnake that got caught
in the freezing weather. A kindhearted man
found him and the snake said "please help me".
The man freed the snake and brought him into his
warm home and put him by the fire to warm.
The snake bit him and the kindhearted man
asked him "why did you bite me, I just saved your
life". The snake told the man, "you knew I was a
snake when you brought me in". I realized then
what she was talking about, choose your friends wisely.
One day I was helping this lady with some chores.
She was a very unfriendly woman and expected you
to work till you dropped. I told my Grandmother about it
and she said, "always remember, there are some people
that will work a willing horse to death". I remember
that lesson very well. My life was touched by this wonderful
woman in a way that I now tell these stories to my children.
Everyone must learn lessons, I pray you can learn them
from someone that lived during times that were hard, they
knew the meaning of hard times. The depression taught them well.

Time To Mow

Now that the weather is getting warm
the grass is growing on this old farm
cutting the hedges and picking up leaves
tall, tall grass, as far as I can see

getting the lawn mower running just right
it's getting old and sometimes it's a fight
checking the oil and filling her up
may finish by evening is she runs alright

The Perfect Pair

I am still me
but you are not you
things are different
what can I do

you look the same
as yesterday
but something happened
along lifes way

no conversation
you don't seem to care
if I am with you
or out somewhere

for hours on end
you sit and stare
the tv's your friend
the perfect pair

A Strong Woman

As my parents aged
I was always close
these were the people
I loved the most

Now without them
to see each day
another journey
comes my way

A husband aging
that forgets my name
seems nothing here
is quiet the same

As constant care
is required each day
my mind aches
for days of play

Memories of yesterday
come calling at times
I am a strong woman
I will be just fine

Day of Truth

Once upon a midnight day
I see how many grownups play
saying things that hurt so deep
they close their eyes in peaceful sleep

not thinking about what is to come
from evil actions they have done
taking things they do not own
and acting like nothing is wrong

that day will come, it always does
that day of truth for all of us

Beautiful Light

Making a change to change
to throw away and rearrange
things left undone now to do
leftovers of me and you

from the ceilings to the floors
and all in between
the clutter of yesterday
going out the door

wipe things down
fluff things up
can't take anymore
have had enough

bring on the sun
that sparkling light
it is time for summer
more hours of light

Another Chance

Never, did she ever, imagine the pain
that comes from money, tangled with fame
how many times had she been down this road
each time getting older with the life she chose

every night, she welcomed them in
showing her kindness, time and again
rich ones, poor ones, and all in between
each time they left her, another they would send

years did pass while nothing changed
seemed like everyone knew her name
one lonely night, she could not sleep
her life so empty, she felt defeat

then that night, a knock at the door
a homeless man, fell to the floor
she gave him food, and a warm place to sleep
he told her softly, "thank you for helping me"

they grew very close, during his stay
and shared their stories along the way
love came calling that cold, dark night
now happy together, seems so right

Down, Down, Down

Hold on tight, the rides getting rough
with every yesterday seems things are worse
down, down, down she falls from Grace
while everyone watches this greedy race

Once so strong designed by men of truth
she gave us freedom and justice, this we knew
now everyday, changes are made to enable some
taking and giving, what have they done

change must come, very soon
or they will have nothing, just doom
strength will change a weak man's mind
but strength now, is hard to find

down, down, down, what can we do
to save this country of the Red, White, and Blue
their eyes wide shut, full throttle they go
destination disaster, this we know

Heaven

There is beauty everywhere
as far as I can see
flowers, trees and rainbows
and it is all for me

stars light up the pathway
through this place of sheer delight
wonders of my dream
given to me this night

peace is the feeling
as I walk on waters edge
lights in the distance
glow on a far off ledge

nothing can compare
to this place of love and light
and I get to see it
on very special nights

Job Hunting Seeds

Today is the first day of the rest of my life
trying to find a job, I have set out in flight
all the applications, and questions they ask
for someone that is older, this can be a task

from one town to another, I went today
"thank you for coming in, we will call you" they say
out their door to another place I go
not much going on, things here are slow

I will not give up, that is not my style
but I haven't done this in quite a while
retail, wholesale, and all in between
my gas hand shows empty, now I could scream

maybe next week my future will change
my phone is fully charge, I will stay in range
only one chance, that is all I need
today I was planting, my job hunting seeds
