The Tin Men

The tin men
in a fortress of smoke.
Death all around,
hungry for oil.

Their eyes in the storm
divide and cleanse
to be dragged into the mud
once again.

It rumbles on.
One and another,
one ceases,
one gets stronger.

A rainbow of shoes,
the broken tin men.

Behind Closed Doors

Heart of Gold,
calming tides
holding on, hands intertwined.

The ironman
so bold, so brave.
An injured deer
step forth to save.

No echoing groans.
No sorrowing pleas.
Hard to see what lies beneath.

There are storms and guilt, rejection, betrayal
gnawing and snapping at his core.
But doesn't let a single salty drip ever hit the floor.

This is where he hides,
Behind Closed Doors.

Rememory

Maybe there's just one star in the sky.
Harbor it, keep it, you and I.
Our secret gem, our weekend retreat,
char on the path to which we sneak.

A day of rememory of the crisp night air.
12:10 in the woods; sweet speech in my ear.

Drissle turns to downpour which electrifies the dark.
A towel dabs a leak where the roof splits with bark.

I vaguely remember slipping into a taxi.
A light! Our star! Seen from the back seat.
Another! Two stars? And more, and more
lining the way to my front door.

Too many! That's enough!
They are burning my face!
Oh no! Oh dear!
And it all went blank.

Esperar

I love that moment before the storm.
The world goes silent
and dozes and snores.

A prayer summons this bliss to last;
for regular breath,
much unlike the past.

Peace that ends in a series of pours.
Inevitable.
Thunder snaps the core.

The world's awake and is frantic.
Breath turns to howls.
Rain. Tears. Panic.

Dawn

A blue bird sings,
a raven calls,
how sweet the sound,
how strange the fall.

Incognito

Sneaking in, sneaking out
as clever as a mouse.

Running here, running there
clearly gone without a care.

Sniffs up to the stars
shining light, shining bright.
Charming little creatures
till it comes to the night.

Savages, beasts, under their pearly white coats.
Black little buttons to match
their black little totes.

Dimpled little grin
Swallowing--swallowing your breath.
Never trust these little killers,
they always lead to death.

Complicated

Sarah lived in a simple town.
In a simple family,
in a simple gown.

She spent her life using simple speech.
And simple goals,
and simple dreams.

She married a simple man named Johnny.
Had two kids,
one Sue, one Bonnie.

They all enjoyed their simple lives.
Till a missile flew,
Their home, it dived--

A simple funeral for this simple family.
A casket to share,
In its serenity.

Stubborn Strength

Gritting my teeth
Swing low, swinging high.
I've come too far to break
not again, not this time.
