A Celebration of Life

Life is meant to be lived and celebrated
Celebrated for those who make living purposeful
Purposeful to them, and to others meaningful
Meaningful enough to be celebrated

Waiting To Exhale

Softly dressed in a black top to hinge
Brown chinos skirt and beige watch
Hair resplendent in curly full fringe
With cute accessories to match

Her voice rings out in a velvety tone
“Obim oh, am gonna love you”
Heart filled with sweetness so prone

Her food rests on a meal of fish
Fish prepared in diverse forms
Its sauce slushed with peppery dish
Mellowed by drinks, so fizzy they burn

In her anger, she struts with a raging heat
Her strides, pressured by a desire to excel
Like the wind, filled with the beat
Of many shoes and waiting to exhale

In the Embers of History

In the embers of history

I am fascinated by law
Thrilled by its prowls
A seeming pull on us to fit in
Or face the consequences
Its tenets bound
By the complications of non-compliance

I witness daily the struggle within
The lopsided internal dialogue
To be or not to be
Quickened by a hush drive to get in
But at what cost, what dire consequences
The law reminds and punishes

History watches and records
Diligently x-raying our actions and inactions
For the day of reckoning
I love history
In the end, we shall all be judged by history
Our legacy and not law

Abuja

Abuja

A city of a thousand hills
Resplendent in beauty
Symbol of a nation's unity
The center of its glory

Basked in the morning light
A vision to behold
Cuddled, the topography
Landscape so alluring

Protected by smouldering rocks
Great and small, ever serene
Concealing the opulence
And might of its power brokers

A city of a thousand networks
Passageways and connections
An undulating cityscape
Where networking has become an art

A city of a thousand gardens
Celebrated for its grandeur hangouts
The skyline, ever bright
You will find your place

Onyemaechi

Onyemaechi: A Tribute

My earliest encounters of him was during the war
The war fought in the hinterland of cities and suburbs
Cities and suburbs filled by aborigines and internally displaced persons
Displaced persons mingling in blood and death, bemused, hungry and doing all to survive

To survive the war, they learned and began to do simple uncommon things
Uncommon things, to the uninitiated, heartrending and daring
And daring were his exploits to rescue his own despite the odds
The odds stacked against him in the line of sporadic enemy fires

Enemy fires notwithstanding, he blazed through the blitz attacks
Blitz attacks targeted at uncommon people who started off as ordinary people
Ordinary people who in their distress stood their ground
Created new consciousness, refused to bulge, made fear to be afraid and discouraged discouragement!

The Ghost of Today

The man or woman you met yesterday
Is different from the ghost you met today
The difference lies in the transition
From one state to the other
