She's a Piece of Work

Be careful she's a piece of work
She'll break your heart and leave you hurt

You see her hips, you see her thighs
That devilish spark in her eyes

She's got you hooked, you think you've
Fallen in love, you bought her a drink
She gave you a hug

You're a bit faded, she takes you home
She gives you the sweetest taboo
But it's unknown

You awake in the morning, she has your cab outside,
The smell of lust on the sheets run wild
So you leave a couple of bucks on the dresser nearby

She's no wife, she's no little girl
She belongs to many men in this world

She'll continue her search, she's out there
And she's a piece of work

                                                                   -Ashley Humes

Shia's Gift of Courage

I promise to tell you how beautiful you are
And let you know before you were born, you were a rare star

I pray God cast courage upon you
To remember the past but create something new

Your a blessing, a new life
It's up to me to teach you wrong from right

This is your life and you have the wheel
But I tell you my child, in this life there are downhills

It's important that you get back up and carry on,
To a brand new melody, to a brand new song

Use this paintbrush to paint what's in your heart
For your life is your own little work of art

I pray God cast courage upon you,
To explore this world with the gift he's given to you

To walk with a smile and joy in your eyes
Because this life, temporary sweet child,
We are only here for a while

                                                         For Shia,

                                                                       -Ashley Humes

When I Am Gone, I Am Still Here

When i am gone and you can no longer see my face,
Just know in my heart you'll never be replaced

When i am gone, left you without a goodbye or a trace,
When my absence makes itself known and your life like
footsteps take on a sadder, slower pace remember i am always here, always near

Can you feel me wipe away your tears? Whispering in your ear
Informing you that better days are near and you have nothing to fear for my arms wrap Around you becoming your shield

My words are growing thin and i have nothing more to say
Just remember even when I'm gone, I am never too far away.... I am still here

Just So You'Ll Know, I'Ll Always Care

Letting you go will be
the hardest thing I'll
ever have to do
I know this because
just thinking about it,
makes my heart fall
slowly, silently yet
freely to the floor
Only to break into
small pieces I've yet
figured out how to put
back together again

It's quite selfless
many would say, but
I've got no shame in
saying that I love you
more than I'll probably
ever
love myself
No shame in saying
that I'd gladly fall from
the face of this earth
to save you

Just so you'll see the
sunrise then set, so
you'll feel
the rain fall upon your
head during the next
storm,
But most of all just so
you'll know I'll always
care

Concrete Jungle

You say concrete jungle? I've never been near
Only tall grasses and green fields here
This delightful place you speak of is unfamiliar to me
It's a place I'd someday like to be

They say it's a place where dreams are born and even torn,
Torn apart and never spoken of again
If it so happens to me, my journey must not end
I'll skip home down south where my heart can mend
And come back stronger to challenge this concrete jungle again

A Storm Is Coming

A storm is coming
near
On our faces,
nothing but fear
Ignorance protects
the heart of the
young
Never knowing what
they're among

Some shake their
heads in disbelief
Some take cover in
the earth beneath
Man protect woman,
woman protect child
Objects tossed, this
wind is wild

A cry for help is
never heard
Every man for
himself, it's quite
absurd
You know the saying
"joy comes in the
morning"
But in their hearts
it's still a bit stormy

They remember the
ones they loss even
though they are now
apart, may they
know they remain in
our hearts, as life
goes on to a new
start

A storm is coming, a
storm has came
The storm is over,
lives were claimed
And the ones that
are left will never be
the same...
A storm is coming
so is the pain

                                                                                     -

What My Eyes Show Me

I am afraid of what my eyes show me
They show me violence instead of peace
But true love is what i wish to see

     They trick me
     They deceive me
     In relationships they blind me

They make my heart stone
Because of them, to me real love is unknown
I try not to love what my eyes see
Because later i realize it's not what it use to be

I try to follow my heart and what it feels
But these deceiving eyes store feelings using a tight seal
Tomorrow will be longer, but my heart will grow stronger
And it'll someday be free, but until that day

I am afraid of what my eyes show me

A Close Friend

Can I tell you my
thoughts and you
promise to keep
them well Like
secrets of your own
that you'd never tell

My thoughts on
love, my thoughts
on life. As if i were
a curious child who
mind runs wild at
night.

When my battles in
life get tough and
I've decided I've
had enough. To
close my eyes and
want to never open
them again, the
thought of death
was once a close
friend.

I've overcome that
thought, I'm smiling
again and I've found
a new friend. I call
him "Life", and he's
greater than my sins.

He protects me,
walks with me in
life. He makes sure
the paths i take are
only right.

He never deceives
me, nor does he
ever leave me. He's
my shield when
stones are cast upon
me.
It is he that breathes
life into me and
shows me a new
day. I've lived, learn,
and I've loved
I only imagined what
lies above

To stop the beatings
of my heart, or
decide when it
starts, is not mine of
choice. I look to him
when I feel I've
been left in the dark.

Inside of You

How could I feel so lost?
I thought I knew who I
was and who I would always be
It was becoming a bit blury
But now I can breathe again and
yes it's a quite delightful feeling
This time It's real, I found love,
love inside myself

It found me when I
found you,
I found love and myself inside of
you
It's something pure,
precious and new
