My Mother, My Heart

You carried me for nine whole months, I stayed warm and cozy in your baby bump

While in your belly I tumbled and kicked, I'm sorry for those first few weeks that I made you sick

I know you thought labor would never end, only moments later you met your best friend

My birthday arrived and I met you my mother, I was now considered a son, nephew and brother.

We had a bond nine months in the making and now I was exclusively yours for the taking.

Daddy is my pal, grandpa my bud, but they will never compare to my mother’s love.

I need you to survive through all my early years, I will need you to comfort me through all of life's fears

I like when you hold me and rock me to sleep, as you sing and whisper, your secrets I will keep

I know life won't be easy, the waters may be rough, but know through your strength you will make me tough.

So let's dive in the uncertain waters of life side by side, together
Mother, your heart is mine and mine is yours, today, always and forever
